Masahiko Tanaka is a veteran Japanese actor and voice actor born on October 1, 1954, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He began his career in the entertainment industry in 1977 after training at the Modern Drama Association affiliated drama school, which he entered in 1973. For many years, he was affiliated with the theatre company Theatre Company Subaru, departing from the group on April 30, 2014, after which he became the president of his own agency, T-Project.
Tanaka has built a substantial career spanning both stage acting and voice work for anime and dubbing. He is frequently cast in roles depicting mature and middle-aged men. Beyond anime, he is extensively involved in dubbing foreign films and television dramas, notably serving as the regular Japanese voice-over actor for American actor Alec Baldwin. He also succeeded the late Kaneto Shiozawa in voicing certain characters within the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.
His filmography is marked by several recurring roles and long-running character portrayals. He has voiced Fumihiko Makabe across multiple installments of the Fafner mecha anime series, including Fafner in the Azure, Fafner in the Azure: Exodus, and the film Fafner in the Azure: Heaven and Earth.
