TV-Series
Description
Soushi Minashiro emerges as a key figure within Tatsumiyajima Island's military organization, Alvis. Born the commander's son, his childhood isolation stemmed from intensive preparation for future leadership, burdened by knowledge of the outside world's destruction by aliens called Festum. This isolation fostered social awkwardness often mistaken for coldness. A childhood accident involving his close friend Kazuki Makabe left Soushi permanently scarred and blind in his left eye, preventing him from piloting the defensive Fafner mecha. This led instead to his role as a tactical commander, utilizing the Siegfried System to mentally link with and guide pilots during combat. His relationship with Kazuki became strained after the injury but redeveloped into a profound, interdependent bond central to protecting the island. Soushi also has a younger sister, Tsubaki Minashiro, who functions as the island's core.
Returning to Tatsumiyajima after a trip to Tokyo during the original series, Soushi immediately assumes command during Festum attacks, demonstrating tactical acumen and deep commitment to the island's survival. His connection to Kazuki proves vital, persuading the reluctant Kazuki to pilot the Mark Elf and providing continuous psychological support through the Siegfried System. Soushi carries significant guilt related to past events and wartime sacrifices, often internalizing his struggles while maintaining a stoic exterior for his comrades.
In *Exodus*, Soushi is assimilated by the Festum during the Fourth Operation Azure and seemingly dies. He is reborn shortly after, discovered by Kazuki and others in the ejected cockpit of the Mark Nicht, surrounded by green crystals. Two years later, this reincarnated Soushi appears physically identical but lacks the scar on his left eye and wears his hair in a ponytail. He displays childlike confusion about the world beyond the island's sea, indicating memory loss or a new perspective shaped by assimilation. He remains with Kazuki, who acts as his guardian during this rediscovery.
*The Beyond* continues the story of the reincarnated Soushi. Three years after *Exodus*, he lives on a new island resembling Tatsumiyajima, now physically aged to adolescence or young adulthood. He retains deep curiosity about the world beyond the ocean and experiences dreams involving figures resembling Tsubaki and another unidentified male. Against advice, Soushi uses a radio to contact the outside world, leading to an encounter with a mysterious figure promising "the truth." During a festival, he secretly meets this person, later revealed as non-human. Kazuki intervenes when these entities attack, returning them to "nothingness." Soushi witnesses this destruction firsthand, including the death of a duplicate Tsubaki. The sight of the resulting green crystals triggers a visceral reaction, leading him to declare his intent to kill Kazuki, signaling a turning point in their relationship.
Throughout his existence, original and reincarnated, Soushi's character is defined by themes of sacrifice, the weight of knowledge, isolation, and complex bonds forged in conflict. His journey spans dedicated tactician to reborn entity grappling with identity, memory, and consequences of his connection to humanity and the Festum. His surname "Minashiro" combines the characters for "all/everybody" (皆, mina) and "castle" (城, shiro), while his given name "Soushi" (総士) means "general officer," reflecting his destined leadership role and connection to the collective.
