Description
Miwa Hino, daughter of Yumiko Toomi, was born two years before the events of "Heaven and Earth." Her birth marked the first natural occurrence on Tatsumiya Island after the establishment of its new core, a connection that manifested early and caused her mother concern. Even as a toddler, she displayed unusual abilities, creating drawings of people like Emery Almond before ever meeting them.
Her role expands significantly in "Exodus." Now older, Miwa possesses esperanto abilities allowing direct communication with the Festum Mir Altair. She maintains a long-distance telepathic friendship with Emery Almond, who shares her gift. Miwa critically initiates contact by urging Alvis to rescue Emery's endangered airplane. Their reunion at Alvis is characterized by profound impatience and joy. She then joins the Tatsumiya pilots and General Narain’s forces alongside Emery on a perilous mission to achieve peace through dialogue with Mir Altair. During this time, Jonathan Mitsuhiro Bartland reveals knowledge of her father.
In "The Beyond," Miwa becomes the primary pilot of the Salvator Model Fafner Mark Sein, succeeding Kazuki Makabe. She participates in the Fifth Operation Azure. Her combat approach prioritizes pacifism; she uses her powers to request passage from blocking Festum rather than resorting to destruction. Upon encountering a crystallized forest and the enemy Fafner Specter piloted by Legato, she recognizes the pilot. Tasked with intercepting a rocket carrying Maris Excelsior and abducted children, she breaches its barrier but hesitates at the critical moment, allowing its escape, leading to a tearful apology. Later, during the Sixth Operation Azure, she evolves Mark Sein, altering its appearance.
Miwa’s defining esperanto ability functions as a bridge between humans, Festum, and Mir entities like Mir Altair. This power fuels her preference for peaceful resolution, causing internal conflict when violence becomes necessary, though her resolve to protect others remains strong. Following "Exodus," Kazuki Makabe becomes a parental figure in her life. Her relationships, especially her deep bond with Emery Almond, are central to her narrative.
