Description
Mitsuki Unabara, grandson of Tokiwadai Middle School's chairwoman (also an Academy City Board Director), possesses Level 4 Telekinesis. This ability enables remote object manipulation and self-application. Severely injured during an abduction, he used it to petrify his cells, entering cryogenic stasis to prevent further harm while immobilized. Academically, he achieved top ranks by cheating: manipulating a thin layer of telekinetic force over computer screens to detect minute heat and radiation, reverse-engineering correct answers—a method later exposing an imposter.
Before the main events, he maintained an acquaintance-level relationship with Misaka Mikoto. Roughly one week before August 31st, Aztec magician Etzali ("Return of the Winged One") abducted him. Etzali meticulously studied Mitsuki's appearance, mannerisms, and social connections, then assumed his form using a skin-based ritual. Disguised as Mitsuki, Etzali approached Mikoto romantically to infiltrate and destabilize the "Kamijou Faction," prompting Mikoto to enlist Kamijou Touma in a fake relationship.
Interacting as Mitsuki, Etzali displayed uncharacteristic intelligence by solving Touma's summer homework, contradicting the real Mitsuki's known academic fraud. This discrepancy, coupled with the sudden appearance of the injured real Mitsuki warning Mikoto to flee, exposed the impersonation. Etzali attacked Touma with an obsidian dagger harnessing Venus's light to dismantle targets. Defeated after a confrontation at a construction site, Etzali revealed conflicted motives: while tasked with sowing distrust among Touma's allies, he developed genuine concern for Mikoto's safety and implored Touma to protect her.
Post-defeat, Etzali joined the covert GROUP under coercion, retaining Mitsuki Unabara's identity. He worked alongside Tsuchimikado Motoharu and Accelerator, participating in operations like thwarting the assassination of Mikoto's mother. During the "Battle Royale" arc, he infiltrated enemy group BLOCK by eliminating operative Yamate and assuming his appearance, gathering intelligence from within their base near the Reformatory facility.
The real Mitsuki Unabara escaped captivity only long enough to warn Mikoto before being hospitalized. His subsequent activities remain undocumented.
