Description
Yuzuki Eba moves from Tokyo to the rural town of Shōbara in Hiroshima Prefecture during high school due to family difficulties after her father's remarriage, creating tension with her step-sister Rin Eba. She lives with the Kirishima family through her father's acquaintance. Before this move, she briefly met Haruto Kirishima as a child during a Shōbara summer festival where he helped her when she was lost and upset, leaving a lasting impression that fostered her fondness for him.
Physically, Yuzuki has long hair, often depicted as blue though occasionally referenced as purple, brown eyes, and fair skin. Her appearance evolves, including a period with shorter, chest-length hair following a significant emotional event, before it regrows to its former length.
Academically gifted and achieving high grades, Yuzuki contrasts this with social naivety and clumsiness. This combination leads to frequent accidents, misunderstandings, and poor handling of serious situations. Despite her intelligence, she often approaches complex emotional problems counterproductively. Her sociable, outgoing personality helps her form connections easily, though she struggles with deeper communication during crises.
Initially supportive of Haruto's interest in classmate Nanami Kanzaki, Yuzuki gradually develops romantic feelings for him. After resolving conflicts with her Tokyo family, she returns home, prompting Haruto's confession. They begin a long-distance relationship, which Yuzuki abruptly ends months later via a "Dear John" letter enclosed with a gift. The letter claims she is dating someone else from her past, though Haruto finds the explanation uncharacteristic. This action conceals the truth: she agreed to date terminally ill former acquaintance Kyousuke Kazama to fulfill his final wish.
When Haruto moves to Tokyo to uncover her motives, Yuzuki maintains a cold distance until Kyousuke's hospitalization forces an encounter. After Kyousuke dies during surgery, guilt over her role in his decision to undergo the risky procedure leads her to reject Haruto completely. A chance reunion years later rekindles their connection, culminating in mutual confessions and renewed commitment despite opposition from friends and Yuzuki's father. They progress to cohabitation in Tokyo, navigating life alongside eccentric neighbors and familial disapproval, which eventually subsides.
Professional aspirations emerge during this period, with Yuzuki pursuing a teaching career. After graduation, Haruto accepts employment in Kochi, forcing another long-distance separation. Exhaustion and work pressures strain their relationship, resulting in a temporary breakup. Upon Haruto's reassignment to Tokyo, they reconcile at Toyama Park and marry. Years later, they operate a restaurant named Kirishima Shokudo, raising their son Daiki. Yuzuki assists at the restaurant during school breaks, balancing her teaching career with family life.
