Description
Hifumi Izanami, also known by his MC name GIGOLO, is a central character from the Shinjuku Division rap crew Matenro. By profession, he works as the top host at the FRAGRANCE club in the Kabukicho district, a role in which he is highly sought after and commands a significant income. This glamorous and charismatic public persona, however, stands in stark contrast to a deep-seated personal struggle. Hifumi suffers from severe gynophobia, an intense and debilitating fear of women that stems from a traumatic encounter during his high school years.

The trauma was inflicted by a former friend named Honobono Keitoin, who harmed both Hifumi and his family members, leaving him with panic attacks when faced with unexpected interactions with women. In a determined effort to overcome this phobia, Hifumi chose to become a host. To function in his profession, he developed a coping mechanism that relies on a specific grey suit jacket. When he wears this jacket, he activates what is known as his host mode or GIGOLO persona, becoming a supremely confident, polished, and flirtatious individual who can effortlessly charm his female clients. Without the jacket, his natural Hifumin persona emerges, which is energetically cheerful, physically affectionate, and socially blunt, often speaking without a filter and being unaware of appropriate volume. Among his trusted friends, a third, calmer side surfaces, revealing a nurturing personality and a vulnerable core.

Hifumi shares an apartment with his childhood best friend, Doppo Kannonzaka, whom he has known since elementary school. Their bond is exceptionally close; Hifumi handles all the domestic chores, including cleaning their home, cooking elaborate meals, and even mending Doppo's suits. This relationship is mutually protective, with each willing to defend the other fiercely. Their living situation and enduring friendship form the bedrock of Hifumi's daily life. The third member of Matenro is the leader, Jakurai Jinguji. Hifumi met Jakurai through Doppo, and the three formed their crew after Jakurai helped them resolve a dangerous situation involving a stalker. Hifumi holds Jakurai in extremely high regard, viewing him as a superhero-like figure, and the two often bond over shared hobbies like fishing and camping.

In the context of the story, Hifumi's primary motivation is confronting and overcoming the trauma that has defined his adult life. His journey involves a direct confrontation with Honobono, the source of his phobia. This encounter destabilizes his carefully maintained personas, leading to an emotional collapse. However, from this crisis, he demonstrates resilience by reclaiming the cadence "Hi-Fu-Mi," once used against him, and transforming it into his own lyrical signature. This act symbolizes his determination to redefine himself beyond his past suffering, with the steadfast loyalty of Doppo and Jakurai bolstering him. Hifumi is not merely a victim of his past but an active agent working towards healing and self-acceptance.

As a rapper, Hifumi wields a distinctive hypnosis microphone. The device is a diamond-encrusted gold body engraved with his MC name, GIGOLO, and features a windscreen shaped like a disco ball. His speakers materialize as golden roses with a floating disco ball above them. His rap ability is known as Enchant, which allows him to gain a degree of control over his opponents by implanting hallucinatory images in their perception, typically in the form of yellow roses. His musical style is energetic, charming, and pop-infused, reflecting his host persona and captivating listeners with themes of romance and allure.

Beyond his musical and professional life, Hifumi is noted for being extremely dexterous with a wide range of hobbies. He enjoys indoor pastimes such as sewing, crafting ships in bottles, and maintaining a skincare routine, as well as outdoor activities like fishing and camping. His appearance is as striking as his personality; he has blonde hair with green undertones and gold-colored eyes. He accessorizes extensively, wearing yellow rose earrings, multiple necklaces and rings, and always keeps a yellow rose in his breast pocket, maintaining the polished image of Shinjuku's number one host.
