Description
Hifumi Izanami, known professionally as GIGOLO, serves as the second member of the rap group Matenro and reigns as Shinjuku's top host despite suffering from extreme gynophobia. This debilitating fear stems from traumatic high school experiences involving former friend Honobono Keitoin. Honobono seduced both Hifumi's father and his sister's fiancé, causing his mother and sister to abandon him permanently. She then fabricated evidence that Hifumi attacked her, turning the entire school against him except childhood friend Doppo Kannonzaka. The trauma, including implied sexual assault by Honobono, resulted in his severe phobia of women.
Post-high school, Hifumi found consistent employment impossible due to required interactions with women. At age 22, Doppo secured him an inventory job at his workplace. A company outing, orchestrated by manager Yamadori to harass Hifumi, forced him into a hostess club, triggering a panic attack. Doppo intervened by punching Yamadori and quitting. Following this, Hifumi developed his "host mode" persona. This auto-suggestive shield activates when he wears a suit jacket, enabling him to adopt a charming, confident host personality to interact with women, masking his persistent terror. He began working at the host club Fragrance in Kabukicho and invited Doppo to become his roommate, an arrangement that continues.
Without his suit jacket, Hifumi exhibits a bubbly, energetic, informal demeanor, frequently using slang and nicknames. Donning the jacket triggers a dramatic shift to a princely, flamboyant, semi-formal host who uses polite self-referential speech. He manages all household chores and cooking for himself and Doppo. Outside work, he pursues diverse hobbies like fishing, camping, makeup artistry, and skincare.
Significant events include a stabbing incident when an obsessive client attacked him and Doppo in their apartment, leading them to seek aid from Jakurai Jinguji and ultimately form Matenro. During the Division Rap Battles, Matenro clashed with teams including Fling Posse and MAD TRIGGER CREW, winning the first tournament. Later, Hifumi assisted Asunaro Bojo in rescuing her kidnapped brother, sparking a coordinated effort involving multiple divisions against the kidnappers.
His rap ability, "Enchant," mesmerizes opponents, granting him control. He features on numerous songs across solo, group, battle, and all-star categories. His given name "Hifumi" translates to the numbers "one two three" (一二三), while his MC name "GIGOLO" corresponds phonetically to "four five six" (shi go ro) in Japanese. His personal motto is "Today is the first day of the rest of your life," originating from Charles Dederich, founder of the addiction recovery group Synanon.
