Description
Anna Kushina is a Strain with long white hair, crimson eyes, and porcelain skin, standing 140 centimeters tall. The HOMRA insignia is embedded in her left eye. She typically dresses in Gothic Lolita attire with ruffles, satin ribbons, and a petite top hat, later adding a crimson-hooded shawl edged with black trim. A unique form of achromatopsia limits her vision almost entirely to grayscale except for the color red, which she perceives vividly. This allows her to clearly see Mikoto Suoh’s intense red aura. She uses red marbles as chromatic lenses and psychic catalysts, granting her abilities such as clairvoyance, mind-reading, scrying, cartomancy, and psychosomatic attacks that can cause suffocation or burns when she experiences emotional distress.

Orphaned after her parents died in an accident, Anna was raised by her aunt Honami Kushina. During this time, she rarely spoke and wore blue dresses—a hue invisible to her. She was later tortured at the Nanakamado Institute under the Gold clansman Kōshi Mizuchi, who inflicted painful experiments including burning, choking, and near-drowning in an attempt to force her synchronization with the Dresden Slate and make her the Blue King. HOMRA rescued her, and in the process Honami’s memories of Anna were erased. Anna joined HOMRA as its sole female member, drawn to Mikoto Suoh’s crimson aura. Though her porcelain-doll poise conceals turbulent emotions, the camaraderie of HOMRA—particularly Tatara Totsuka’s encouragement to express feelings—helps her slowly rekindle emotional responses. After Totsuka’s death, Anna experiences profound grief. On her birthday shortly afterward, Mikoto gifts her a red rose, which reignites her capacity for warmth; she offers a faint smile, vowing to mourn with warmth while containing sorrow. Following Mikoto’s death, Anna inherits his role as the Red King and leads HOMRA. She resents Blue King Reisi Munakata for killing Mikoto, even while acknowledging it prevented a catastrophic Damocles Down. Her paranormal talents prove valuable during the Rakshasa drug wars, and her compassion extends to a sentient Strain horse named Basashi, whom she defends from capture.
