Description
Ichiro is a sixth-grade student attending a small rural school where all grades share a single classroom, situated beside a mountain stream. As the oldest child among the village children, he naturally assumes a leadership role within their group. His demeanor is marked by measured and mature movements, described as walking into the schoolyard with slow, large steps reminiscent of an adult.

In terms of personality, Ichiro demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and a protective nature. He takes the initiative to investigate when the mysterious, red-haired transfer student Saburou Takada unsettles the other children, approaching the classroom to question the newcomer directly. He also acts as a mediator, intervening to stop physical fights among the younger children, such as separating two boys named Goro and Kousuke.

Ichiro’s primary motivation centers on maintaining order and safeguarding his peer group, particularly when an outsider is in danger. This is most clearly shown when Saburou accidentally picks a tobacco leaf from a field strictly supervised by the Monopoly Bureau. Recognizing the potential trouble, Ichiro warns Saburou about the transgression. Later, when an official from the Bureau appears near the river where the children are playing, Ichiro takes charge of the situation. He instructs the other children to physically encircle and shield Saburou and then leads the group in shouting complaints to distract the official, successfully deflecting attention away from Saburou’s mistake.

Within the story’s narrative, Ichiro functions as a stabilising and protective leader among the village children, mediating conflicts and orchestrating the group’s defence of the outsider Saburou. His key relationships involve his peers, whom he leads and protects, his grandfather who is mentioned as part of the story's cast, and his specific role as a guardian figure to Saburou. His character development is evidenced by his proactive choice to investigate a stranger and his strategic thinking in executing a plan to protect someone who had made an error. Regarding notable abilities, no specific supernatural or extraordinary powers are attributed to Ichiro; however, he is shown to dream of a wind spirit’s song, the lyrics of which are recallable.
