TV-Series
Description
Q-Taro is a ghost (obake) who hatched from an egg discovered in a forest by a human boy, Shota Ohara. This event brought him into the human world to live with the Ohara family. As an obake, he possesses ghostly abilities like flight and invisibility but lacks the transformative powers common to his kind.

He stands approximately 111 centimeters tall with black eyes and hair. His hair design evolved during the series, initially featuring ten or more strands before reducing to three, influenced by external suggestions referencing psychological theories about odd numbers in male characters. These three hairs measure roughly 15 centimeters. Q-Taro wears a one-piece garment made of the fictional material Baketron or Bakemiron, requiring regular changes and shrinking during washing. The outfit includes a concealed pocket on his belly for storing items. His overall appearance drew inspiration from a penguin wearing infant clothing.

Q-Taro exhibits a large appetite, consuming food portions far exceeding human norms, with his enthusiasm for food often driving his actions. His personality includes emotionally sensitive tendencies; sadness or hurt feelings sometimes lead him to contemplate running away. He possesses a defining fear of dogs, typically fleeing their presence, and maintains a strong aversion to revealing his form beneath his clothing, citing cultural laws from the "country of Obake."

His primary relationship is with Shota Ohara, the boy who found his egg. Q-Taro regards Shota as his closest friend, affectionately calling him "Sho-chan," while Shota uses "Q-chan." Their frequent companionship is sometimes disrupted by Q-Taro's unfamiliarity with human society, creating chaotic situations Shota must address. Narrative developments depict a significant separation where Q-Taro departs for the ghost world. He returns after a 12-year absence to find Shota as an adult. Recognizing their differing life stages due to his slow aging, Q-Taro ultimately chooses to return permanently to the ghost world.

His familial connections include parents X-zō (father) and O-zetto (mother), a younger brother named O-jiro who communicates exclusively through the phrase "bakeratta" (only understood by Q-Taro), and a younger sister named P-ko. In romantic relationships, Q-Taro considers U-ko his girlfriend; their interactions involve her assigning him chores or judo practice, causing him discomfort and shyness. His rival is Doronpa, an American ghost whose competitive behavior stems from national pride and a belief in superiority over Japanese ghosts. This rivalry intensifies due to U-ko's admiration for Doronpa and Doronpa's romantic interest in P-ko, leading to conflicts fluctuating between hostility and occasional cooperation.

In the spin-off Nintendo Entertainment System game *Obake no Q-tarō: WanWan Panic* (localized as *Chubby Cherub*), Q-Taro's gameplay reflects core traits: consuming food sustains his flight capability, and confronting dog enemies aligns with his established fears. The game involves rescuing friends across levels using hearts as projectiles against canine adversaries.
