Description
Mamoru Chiba is the civilian identity of Tuxedo Mask, a central protagonist in the Sailor Moon Crystal series. Orphaned at the age of six when his parents died in a car accident, he lost most of his early memories and was raised alone in an apartment in Tokyo. In the present day of Season III, he is a second-year high school student at Moto-Azabu Private High School, known for his high intelligence and quiet, studious demeanor. He is the reincarnation of Prince Endymion, the former prince of the Golden Kingdom of Earth, and carries a deep, subconscious connection to his past life. His personality in Sailor Moon Crystal is calm, kind, and supportive from the outset, with a grounded and nurturing side. He is highly intelligent, often compared to Sailor Mercury, and aspires to become a doctor. Despite a reserved exterior, he is deeply protective of those he cares about, especially Usagi Tsukino, and he consistently risks his life for her and the other Sailor Guardians. His motivations are rooted in his desire to recover his lost memories, protect the Earth, and safeguard his loved ones. Throughout the Infinity arc, he acts as a steadfast ally to Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians, providing emotional encouragement, strategic advice, and direct combat support. As Tuxedo Mask, he wears a formal black tuxedo, a white mask, a top hat, and a cape with a red interior, and wields a cane and red roses that he throws as projectiles. His primary magical attack is Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber, a powerful energy blast. He also possesses latent psychic abilities, including psychometry—the power to read memories and emotions from objects or people—and healing capabilities, which are present but not fully developed until later arcs. His most important relationship is with Usagi Tsukino, whom he loves deeply and supports unconditionally. The two share a strong, healthy romantic bond that originates from their past lives as Endymion and Princess Serenity. In Crystal, their relationship develops more smoothly than in the original anime, with mutual respect and affection from early on. He also has a future with Usagi as King Endymion, ruling over Crystal Tokyo, and they have a daughter named Chibiusa. During Season III, his role expands as he frequently combines his powers with Sailor Moon to overcome powerful enemies, such as in the creation of the Love Me Chain. His character development in this season focuses on his growing acceptance of his dual identity and his unwavering commitment to fighting alongside the Sailor Guardians. Notable abilities include superhuman agility, energy projection, and the capacity to sense danger and enemy presences. In the Infinity arc, he actively participates in battles against the Death Busters, using both physical combat and his psychic gifts to aid the team. Overall, Mamoru Chiba embodies the archetype of a supportive guardian and devoted partner, whose quiet strength and resilience make him an indispensable part of the Sailor Moon Crystal narrative.
