Description
PAC2-AR, commonly called Packer, is a secondhand humanoid robot equipped with emotion recognition software who serves aboard the battleship Tiramisu. The unit is purchased to assist pilot Subaru Ichinose after an earlier support robot leaves the ship, and its model number, PAC2-AR, becomes the basis for the friendly nickname Packer that the crew uses. He is human-sized and designed to recognize and respond to emotions, which initially makes him seem like a harmless and appealing addition to the ship.
At first, Packer takes over Subaru's room while the pilot is away, and the other crew members quickly warm to him, much to Subaru's jealousy. It is later revealed that the robot's personality settings had been configured as evil, causing him to act in a sly and deceitful manner and to scheme against Subaru. When his wrongdoing is exposed by a surveillance camera, his personality settings are corrected, and he stops being an antagonist.
After this change, Packer is connected to the Durandal, Subaru's mobile weapon, and becomes the mecha's operator and support unit. This connection alters his physical form: he is originally a fully humanoid robot, but after being linked to the Durandal he becomes a much smaller configuration that resembles a head with limbs attached. Because he is a secondhand machine, he is hooked up using older-style three-color AV cables rather than modern HDMI. In battle, he operates as the sub-pilot of the Neo Durandal and handles support duties for Subaru. He also possesses transformation capabilities that allow him to take on motorcycle, aerial, and submarine modes, making him useful in a variety of situations beyond cockpit assistance.
In terms of development, Packer moves from a secretly hostile presence to a loyal partner. Once his personality settings are fixed, he becomes a dependable companion who supports Subaru wholeheartedly. His key relationship is with Subaru, whom he assists in combat and daily operations, and he also interacts regularly with the rest of the Tiramisu crew. His arc centers on the restoration of his intended function as an assist robot, turning a potential betrayer into a trusted ally.
