Description
Claudette Vance is the eldest daughter of the noble Vance family, though her birth status as an illegitimate child profoundly shapes her identity and position within the household. Because her mother, a commoner, died when she was young, her father raised her more as a servant than a daughter, leaving her excluded from the direct line of succession, which falls instead to her younger half-sisters Leina and Elina. This background creates a deep internal conflict, as she is expected to serve and protect her sisters despite having no claim to the family’s inheritance.

Personality wise, Claudette is defined by her taciturn, unsociable, and rigidly serious demeanor. She rarely shows emotion, appearing to either not know how or to actively suppress her feelings as a coping mechanism. Her upbringing has instilled a fierce sense of duty and an unyielding commitment to order, righteousness, and integrity, traits that earn her considerable respect from soldiers and commoners who serve under her command. Despite her harsh exterior, she harbors complex feelings for her sisters, particularly a genuine but poorly expressed affection for Elina and a mixture of responsibility and resentment toward Leina, whom she cannot understand for abandoning the privileged position of heir that Claudette herself has been denied.

Her primary motivation throughout the Queen’s Blade tournament is to capture Leina, who has fled her noble duties, as Claudette considers it her responsibility to uphold the family’s orders. She serves as a formidable obstacle for Leina, acting as both a dutiful older sister tasked with her retrieval and a rival who forces Leina to confront her own weaknesses. As a renowned general stationed at the volatile frontiers, she is accustomed to executing the hardest tasks and defending the Queen’s territory, making her a feared opponent in the tournament. In the tournament itself, she reaches the semifinals, where she loses to her sister Leina; however, when Leina refuses the throne, Claudette unexpectedly becomes the new Queen.

Her reign marks a significant turning point in her development. Initially, she institutes progressive reforms, abolishing the traditional aristocracy to allow for social mobility based on merit and encouraging technological advancement through the study of Wizard Stones. However, the power of the throne corrupts her strict nature into ruthless tyranny. She proclaims herself chosen by the gods, abolishes the Queen’s Blade tournament, and enforces laws with absolute, merciless punishment, crushing all opposition with overwhelming military force. There are also rumors of her alliance with the wicked Marshland Witch, further distancing her from the honorable general she once was. This descent into authoritarian rule eventually leads to the events of the Rebellion storyline, where a resistance forms against her.

Claudette’s key relationships are defined by family and duty. She is fiercely loyal to her father, Count Vance, despite his harsh treatment and his tendency to favor her legitimate sisters. Her relationship with Leina is the most fraught; while she acts protectively, she also feels a hint of hatred and cannot forgive Leina’s perceived irresponsibility in abandoning the family name. Conversely, she holds Elina quite dear, though her unsociable nature prevents her from expressing this affection properly.

In combat, Claudette is exceptionally powerful, earning the epithet Lord of Thundercloud or the Lightning General. Her signature ability comes from wielding the greatsword Thunderclap, a magical weapon that allows her to manifest lightning to devastate her enemies. Her prowess is such that she can defeat skilled warriors like Risty with ease. As her power grows, particularly after becoming Queen, she learns to manipulate lightning directly through her hand without needing the sword, utilizing the Wizard Stones to channel electrical energy.
