Movie
Description
Orphaned young, Hayate Yagami lived alone before becoming master of the mystical Book of Darkness (later the Tome of the Night Sky). This artifact bound the four guardians Signum, Vita, Shamal, and Zafira—the Wolkenritter—to serve her. Unaware of the book's true nature or her knights' actions, she treated them as family, forging deep bonds. During the A's storyline, progressive paralysis caused by the book draining her life force confined her to a wheelchair. Her kind, selfless nature softened the Wolkenritter's initially ruthless demeanor.
During the Book of Darkness incident, the Wolkenritter secretly attacked other mages to collect magical energy (Linker Cores), aiming to fill the book's pages and halt Hayate's deterioration. Hayate explicitly forbade them from harming others, believing no one should suffer for her sake. Discovering the truth and witnessing the knights' apparent demise triggered intense emotional turmoil. This allowed the book's corrupted defense program, named NachtWal in the movie, to possess her, seeking destruction through her body. Hayate later regained control through resolve and love for her family, renaming the book's benevolent core consciousness "Reinforce." Reinforce sacrificed herself to permanently destroy the defense program. The movie adaptation frames this sacrifice with narration from Hayate's later creation, Reinforce Zwei, and includes expanded scenes of Hayate's early unconscious bond with the book's sentience.
Following these events, Hayate underwent rehabilitation, eventually regaining her ability to walk. She joined the Time-Space Administration Bureau (TSAB) alongside Nanoha Takamachi and Fate Testarossa. Despite her youth, her exceptional SS-ranked magical power and leadership skills propelled her rapid rise. She founded and commanded Riot Force 6, a special unit investigating Lost Logia incidents during "StrikerS," comprising the Wolkenritter, Nanoha, Fate, and new recruits. After Riot Force 6 disbanded, she transferred to the Dimensional Navy and later established Special Duty Section 6 to handle the Eclipse Incident in "Force."
Her magic utilizes the Ancient Belka system, distinct from Nanoha and Fate's Mid-Childan system. She employs multiple Devices simultaneously: the storage device Tome of the Night Sky, the armed device Schwertkreuz, and the unison device Reinforce Zwei (created in memory of the original Reinforce). Her magic specializes in wide-area, high-destructive spells like Brionac and Diabolic Emission, its scale making it less suited for direct one-on-one combat. She is also recognized for her tactical mind and command of complex operations.
Beyond her duties, she maintains a close familial bond with the Wolkenritter, often referring to them as her children. Motivated by a desire to care for her family, she developed exceptional culinary skills. Her personality blends cheerful warmth—sometimes expressed through playful mischief like wearing tanuki costumes—with deep-seated determination to prevent others from experiencing loss or regret, stemming from her past traumas and Reinforce's sacrifice.
