Description
Chase, legally named Zen Makunouchi, is a 10-year-old chef-in-training hailing from Yokohama. As the son of Master Chef Jack and younger brother of Kayla, his core motivation stems from aspiring to become an Elite Master Chef like his father, whom he strongly resembles in both appearance and resolve. This ambition intensifies dramatically after his father's disappearance, driving Chase to join the rebellion opposing King Gorge's Glutton Empire.

Confident and competitive by nature, Chase exhibits nervousness around fellow chef Coco, often adopting more gentlemanly manners in her presence. His personality includes flashes of impulsiveness, such as briefly supporting antagonist causes when tempted by exceptional food, and bouts of overconfidence following victories. Yet he demonstrates profound loyalty and protective instincts, launching daring rescues for allies and Foodons alike. A defining heroic crisis occurs when his Foodon Fruit Turtle is destroyed, leading to a temporary refusal to battle.

Initially capable only of creating comically ineffective Burnt Meatballs, Chase trains under mentor Oslo to hone both culinary and combat skills. His development includes rigorous training at Gruel Academy and the discovery of his latent ability as a Dish Wizard. This rare power enables him to create exceptionally potent 5-Star Foodons, first manifested unconsciously while preparing Fruit Turtle. His culinary prowess advances to the point where he can break mind-control spells through cooking aromas alone.

His signature Foodons evolve significantly: Fried Ricer serves as his primary battler with energy projection and water-walking abilities; Hot Doggone-It provides ranged support; and the Burnt Meatballs transition from comic relief into essential components for advanced fusions. Key creations include Fruit Turtle, a Five-Star Foodon capable of energy projection and flight, and Feastivus, a Deluxe Foodon fused from Shrimp Daddy, Dim-Sumthin' Special, Sir Dumpling, and the Burnt Meatballs. Fruit Turtle's sacrifice against Rose Marinade marks a pivotal emotional turning point.

In the final conflict, Chase merges his core Foodons to become Palator, the Foodon Embodiment of Good, countering King Gorge's Devouron. This act culminates in cleansing Gorge's evil and restoring peace. Post-victory, Chase is declared the new King of Foods but ultimately rejects the role's formality, choosing instead to continue cooking adventures with friends and allies.

The manga depicts Chase at approximately 15 years old with elongated canine teeth visible when his mouth closes. His core personality remains consistent with his animated portrayal, though game adaptations present notable differences in characterization.
