Description
Marchosias serves as Crimson Lord to Flame Haze Margery Daw, bearing the true name "Claw and Fangs of Violation" and wielding ultramarine flames. His will expresses itself through the divine vessel Grimoire, a book filled with numerous bookmarks. Margery employs these bookmarks as talismans for diverse spells. Marchosias exhibits a frivolous personality and rough, vulgar speech, frequently making inappropriate or teasing remarks—especially targeting Margery's drinking—without remorse. These provocations often incite Margery to physically strike the Grimoire. Despite this volatile dynamic, profound mutual trust and friendship anchor their relationship. Marchosias functions as a reliable comrade and occasional mentor to Margery, Satō, and Tanaka. His perceptiveness and strategic cunning frequently provide a cooler-headed counterpoint to Margery's impulsiveness.
Marchosias first manifested to Margery in the Middle Ages during a critical juncture after "The Silver" killed those she sought to avenge. He compelled her into the contract establishing their partnership. His true form is that of a gigantic, fiery ultramarine werewolf. This form temporarily manifested when Margery, wounded by Shana and unconscious, lost control of her power during a battle with Lamies, inadvertently materializing the Toga in his likeness. The manifestation's power was immense; its roar pierced the Fūzetsu barrier, reaching humans outside and threatening to dissolve the barrier entirely. During this rampage, Marchosias attacked Shana and Yuji Sakai by firing Endan energy blasts from his mouth.
In combat, Marchosias mirrors Margery's extreme aggression towards Crimson Denizens, reveling in violent confrontations and laughing wildly during battles—a rare point of alignment. He enables Margery's flight by letting her stand atop the Grimoire and offers tactical support, such as advising patience during Yuji's training. The Grimoire's bookmarks serve multiple functions: permitting human movement within a Fūzetsu, storing objects like the Treasure Tool Blutsauger, and detecting Unrestricted Spells. Unaffiliated with factions like Bal Masqué, Marchosias and Margery operate as a dedicated team hunting Denizens. Their partnership endures through Margery's periods of apathy, during which Marchosias displays wisdom and employs trickery to reignite her resolve.
