Description
Marchosias is a Crimson Lord from the Crimson Realm who is contracted to the Flame Haze Margery Daw. His true name is Claw and Fangs of Violation, and the color of his flame is ultramarine. He expresses his will through a divine vessel known as the Grimoire, which takes the form of a large book. When his true nature fully manifests in the human world, he takes the shape of a gigantic wolf.
In personality, Marchosias is noisy, fun-loving, and prone to making rude or wildly teasing remarks, especially directed at Margery. This behavior often earns him a retaliatory punch that sends him across the room. Despite their constant squabbling, he genuinely cares for Margery not necessarily as a friend but as a trusted companion in battle. The two have fought together since the Middle Ages, and beneath their bickering lies the easy trust of longtime partners.
Marchosias’s motivations are closely tied to his contract with Margery. He supports her in her quest for revenge against the Denizen known as the Silver, a driving force in her life, and aids her in maintaining the balance between the human world and the Crimson Realm. He also provides practical support outside of combat, such as curing her hangovers and serving as a form of transportation when needed.
His role in the story is that of a supporting Crimson Lord who grants Margery her power. Through their contract, Margery can transform into a massive werewolf-like creature wreathed in blue ultramarine flame and cast complex Unrestricted Spells. In moments when Margery loses control, Marchosias’s true form can inadvertently materialize in the real world, causing chaos.
Key relationships include his bond with Margery, which is defined by verbal sparring but deep loyalty. He interacts with other characters primarily through Margery’s involvement in the larger conflict, such as with the Flame Haze Shana and her comrades. Marchosias does not undergo significant personal development across the series, but his enduring partnership with Margery reflects a stable, if volatile, dynamic.
Notable abilities include his ultramarine flame, the capacity to fully manifest as a gigantic wolf, and the power to empower Margery’s transformations and spells. He can also cure hangovers and, through the Grimoire, provide a vehicle for travel. His presence is a constant source of strength and irritation for Margery, making him a memorable and functionally important figure within the world of Shakugan no Shana.
