There, he owned a Charmander and became inspired by Sycamore to research Mega Evolution. After leaving the lab, his Charmander evolved into Charmeleon and then Charizard. Searching for a Charizardite in ruins, he battled Lysandre's Pyroar and lost. Lysandre then recruited Alain, providing him with a Mega Ring and Charizardite X under the pretense of harnessing Mega Evolution energy peacefully to protect Sycamore's reputation. Alain accepted, driven by a desire to become stronger and shield the Professor from potential misuse of his research. Alain's primary mission became defeating all Mega-Evolved Pokémon with his Mega Charizard X. He undertook assignments for Lysandre Labs, gathering Mega Evolution energy and battling users like Astrid's Mega Absol and Remo's Mega Garchomp. During this time, he encountered Mairin, a beginning Trainer sent by Sycamore. Though initially reluctant, Alain allowed Mairin to accompany him, helping her catch a Flabébé. Their journey took them to Hoenn, where Alain battled Steven Stone's Shiny Mega Metagross. Lysandre interrupted, prompting a joint investigation of ruins tied to a Giant Rock. Alain and Steven activated the ruins using their Key Stones, awakening the Giant Rock and attracting a Mega Rayquaza that attacked them. Alain and Steven fought back but were overwhelmed. Later, Alain and Steven responded to energy surges near Rustboro City linked to Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. Following Lysandre's orders, Alain prioritized protecting the Giant Rock, resulting in Charizard sustaining severe injuries battling the Primal Pokémon. Mairin, who had stowed away, aided Alain after he was incapacitated. After these events, Alain returned to Kalos without Mairin, believing his dangerous path endangered her. He resumed training under Lysandre, accepting a challenge to defeat ten consecutive Mega Evolution users. During this period, Mairin's Chespie was exposed to experimental energy at Lysandre Labs and fell into a coma. Witnessing Mairin's despair, Alain blamed himself and dedicated himself to collecting Mega Evolution energy to heal Chespie, severing ties with Mairin to focus solely on this task. Alain later competed in the Kalos Pokémon League, defeating Ash Ketchum in the finals to become Champion. This victory came after his Charizard overcame Ash's Greninja in its unique Ash-Greninja form, a transformation Alain had previously studied due to its non-Mega Evolution nature. He eventually uncovered Lysandre's true villainous plans, leading him to ally with Ash to stop Team Flare's assault on Lumiose City, an effort deeply personal due to his unwitting assistance to Team Flare. Years later, Alain achieved the Master Class rank in the World Coronation Series, placing him among the world's eight strongest Trainers. He also transitioned into a role as a Mega Stone researcher. His known Pokémon team includes Charizard (his constant partner, capable of Mega Evolving into Mega Charizard X), Metagross (evolved from Metang), Tyranitar, Unfezant, Weavile, Bisharp, Chesnaught, and Malamar. Personality-wise, Alain exhibits a stoic and aloof demeanor, often appearing focused and reserved. He initially pushes others away, particularly Mairin, believing his quest for strength endangers them. Despite this, he forms a profound bond with Charizard and gradually develops care for Mairin, though he struggles to express it. His central drive is a determination to become the strongest, motivating his actions even after recognizing Lysandre's betrayal. He accepts losses constructively, using them as motivation for further training.
