In his youth, Platane studied under Professor Rowan in Sinnoh before returning to Kalos. He trained at the Tower of Mastery to master Mega Evolution but concluded he lacked the strength to wield it, opting instead for a professorship. His fieldwork includes investigating the Anistar Sundial's link to Mega Evolution.

Platane shares a close bond with his primary Pokémon, a female Garchomp raised from a Gible. This Garchomp assists his Mega Evolution studies and ultimately achieves Mega Evolution under his guidance. Platane later observes Alain's battles involving Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and Mega Rayquaza, noting Alain's growing detachment. During Team Flare's crisis, Platane battles alongside allies like Steven Stone and Kalos Gym Leaders, rescues his assistant Mairin from Team Flare, and shelters Alain post-conflict.

In *Pokémon Journeys: The Series*, Platane comforts Mairin while watching Alain's World Coronation Series matches and later views Ash Ketchum's battle against Leon.
