TV Special
Description
Daigo Tsuwabuki, known internationally as Steven Stone, is the Champion of the Hoenn region’s Pokémon League and the son of the president of the Devon Corporation. He is a tall young man with distinctive steel-blue hair and matching eyes. His typical attire consists of a dark charcoal jacket patterned with black zig-zag stripes, worn over a white undershirt with a red tie, complemented by black trousers and metallic jewelry on his sleeves and fingers. Later in the storyline, he wears a Mega Stickpin on his jacket, which functions as his Key Stone.

Daigo possesses a calm, wise, and humble demeanor, often carrying himself with a quiet and reserved nature. Despite his immense wealth and status, he shows little interest in the privileges of his family name, instead preferring solitary travel driven by a deep and personal fascination with rare stones and minerals. This passion extends beyond simple collection to a dedicated academic interest in the nature of Mega Stones and the mechanics of Mega Evolution. While generally composed and playful, he displays serious determination when confronting large-scale crises, such as the awakening of powerful Legendary Pokémon.

As a trainer, Daigo is a master of Steel-type Pokémon, with his primary partner being a Shiny Metagross capable of Mega Evolution. His battle team also features Pokémon such as Aggron and Cradily. He is known to traverse long distances by floating atop his Metagross, using the Pokémon’s magnetic properties for transport.

In the Mega Evolution specials, Daigo’s primary motivation is his research into the origins of Mega Evolution. He actively pursues its roots by deciphering ancient texts, including a wooden plate prophecy that speaks of a legendary megalith. In his search for this artifact, known as the Giant Rock, he partners with the trainer Alain. The two work together, using their Key Stones simultaneously to activate ancient mechanisms that reveal hidden locations and pathways.

Daigo plays a crucial role in the story during a crisis involving the Legendary Pokémon Groudon and Kyogre. When the two titans enter their Primal Reversion states and begin to clash, he takes direct action to prevent catastrophic damage to the Hoenn region. He battles against the Primal Pokémon using his Mega Metagross, engaging them to keep them away from the Giant Rock. He demonstrates extensive knowledge of the ancient myths surrounding Primal Reversion, warning his allies of the potential consequences if the two forces collide.

His key relationships include his alliance with Alain, whom he works alongside to investigate the ruins and later to survey the destruction caused by the Legendary Pokémon. He also maintains a connection with Lysandre, collaborating in the initial efforts to summon Rayquaza and later engaging with him regarding the contained Giant Rock. He shows concern for his allies’ well-being, including compassion for Mairin after her Pokémon, Chespie, falls into a coma due to exposure to unstable energy.

Throughout the specials, Daigo undergoes notable development in his approach to collaboration. Initially depicted as a solitary wanderer, he becomes increasingly open to working with other researchers and trainers, understanding that cooperation is necessary to solve the mysteries of Mega Evolution and to face threats like the Primal Pokémon. He shows strong confidence in his own abilities and a deep respect for the efforts of his fellow trainers.

His notable abilities include the capacity to Mega Evolve his Metagross in battle. He is also a skilled interpreter of ancient texts and archaeological puzzles, successfully deciphering prophecies to locate the Giant Rock. Beyond combat, he is entrusted by his father with high-level security missions for the Devon Corporation, such as attempting to seal the Seafloor Cavern to prevent the awakening of Groudon and Kyogre.
