Description
Azusa Noyama earned her nickname "Azuki-chan" in first grade after classmate Ken Takayanagi misread her name "Azusa" as "Azuki". She initially despised the nickname. Her feelings changed dramatically on the first day of fifth grade when new transfer student Yuunosuke Ogasawara heard the name and memorized it with obvious delight, becoming the first boy to notice her. This moment sparked an immediate romantic interest in Yuunosuke and led Azusa to embrace the nickname she once hated.
Azusa lives in an apartment with her mother Keiko, father Tadashi, and younger brother Daizu. Her family life involves observing Daizu's own romantic experiences, including a time when his girlfriend briefly developed feelings for Yuunosuke before reconciling with Daizu upon recognizing Yuunosuke's connection to Azusa. She shares a close bond with three friends: the sensitive, blonde Kaoru Nishino, who secretly likes Ken; the tomboyish Midori Kodama, who prefers the nickname "Jidama" and lives with her grandmother; and class president Tomomi Takahashi, known as "Tomo-chan", who wears glasses and has a black bob haircut. Early in their friendship, these four formed the "Club of Unreturned Love" or "One-Sided Love Club".
Azusa's romantic focus remains on Yuunosuke, marked by intense jealousy when he interacts with other girls, especially her wealthy rival Yoko Sakakibara who actively tries to separate them. Key moments include their first kiss occurring after Yuunosuke was assaulted by middle school students, followed by a humorous misunderstanding where both believed the kiss could lead to Azusa becoming pregnant. Their relationship deepens through exchanges in a shared diary, which functions as subtle love letters.
The story continues beyond elementary school, depicting Azusa and Yuunosuke marrying at age 20 and later having fraternal twins. This conclusion provides a "Babies Ever After" resolution, mirroring the marriage of her friends Kaoru and Ken.
