Description
Noroi is the primary antagonist throughout "The Adventures of Gamba" media. Leader of a weasel clan, he violently invades Yumemishima (Dream Island), displacing and terrorizing the native mouse population. His name, translating to "curse" in Japanese, reflects his feared reputation.

Visually, Noroi possesses distinctive snow-white fur and red eyes, his albinism making him stand out. His fur interacts with light, creating a glowing effect that enhances his supernatural aura. Director Osamu Dezaki employed specific animation techniques to emphasize his menace: limiting his movement to contrast with mobile protagonists, using sudden close-ups of his face or claws, and framing him as a towering, immobile figure against a moving environment. His body shape often appears triangular, focusing attention on his claws, eyes, and mouth as instruments of threat.

Noroi demonstrates specific predatory abilities. He utilizes hypnotism, triggered when his red eyes emit an eerie glow in darkness, to control victims. This power features prominently in the 2015 film adaptation, where he orchestrates a false peace ceremony, using hypnosis to lure mice toward drowning during a weasel dance ritual. He exhibits exceptional physical prowess, including swift, fluid snake-like movements and combat resilience. His senses allow him to detect intruders on his territory, often materializing unexpectedly to oversee attacks.

His personality centers on cruelty, sadism, and manipulation. He displays arrogance and contempt for adversaries, often underestimating them initially. When challenged or wounded, especially by rodents, he exhibits extreme rage and vindictiveness. He employs psychological tactics, instilling fear through his reputation, sudden appearances, and ominous growls or chants. His actions include slaughtering mouse villages, destroying bird eggs, and personally drowning the elder mouse Clarence in the 2015 film after a defiant confrontation. He takes pleasure in prolonging victims' suffering, viewing them as playthings.

His role remains consistent as the oppressive force driving the conflict. In the original 1975 series, he rules the invaded island, compelling protagonist Gamba and companions to mount a defense after his atrocities are revealed by the injured mouse Chuta. The 2015 film depicts him directly overseeing the siege of the mice's cliffside refuge, taunting them with false surrender offers before launching assaults. His defeat varies: the original series implies a demise involving fire, while the 2015 film culminates in a battle where birds and mice force him into the ocean depths, where he drowns after a final, furious struggle against Gamba and the tide.
