Her relationship with Ryunosuke drives her arc. Learning of his plan to return to Shanghai once the Shinsengumi turns profitable triggers deep distress and a temporary emotional breakdown. This motivates Shinsengumi members, especially Yuko Kondo, to devise schemes preventing Ryunosuke's departure. Yuko specifically fears Oryou might commit suicide if he leaves, underscoring her intense maternal attachment.

Oryou displays a pragmatic but sometimes absent-minded nature. A conversation with Kaoru Okita about Okita's half-yōkai heritage and potential marriage to Ryunosuke seems to shock Oryou. However, her reaction stems solely from noticing cockroaches behind Okita, not disapproval, suggesting tolerance for human-yōkai relationships.

Her strategic skill emerges during the climax. Facing a hostile takeover by the antagonistic Tsubame Group, Oryou willingly transfers control of the insolvent Shinsengumi company to Miki Saotome. This maneuver shifts the crippling debt burden to the Tsubame Group, neutralizing their threat through financial entrapment.
