Description
A mysterious girl encountered by Hyougo Otoo during his travels, Aoi Yamada presented herself as a 16-year-old orphan whose parents died in a house fire, possessing only a luxury suitcase. Otoo brought her to Wagnaria restaurant, where she began training as a waitress and lived in the attic. Her fabricated background soon unraveled due to inconsistencies like her delayed response to "Yamada" and the implausibility of salvaging a fully packed suitcase from a fire. Investigation revealed she had run away from home following conflicts with her older brother, Kirio Yamada, primarily over him eating her favorite natto. While her real first name, Aoi, was genuine, "Yamada" was an alias.

Her personality blends confidence with troublesome behavior. She intensely yearns for an idealized family, designating Otoo as a father figure, Yachiyo Todoroki as a mother figure, and Hiroomi Souma as a brother. She formally applied for adoption by Otoo and advocated for romantic relationships between her chosen "family," including urging Yachiyo to pursue an affair with Otoo. At work, she proved incompetent and disruptive, frequently breaking dishes and stealing food and utensils for her attic stash while disregarding social norms, such as calling coworkers at inappropriate hours. Regular reprimands from Souta Takanashi and Jun Satou often prompted performative tears rather than genuine remorse. Academically, she struggled, failing entrance exams multiple times and misinterpreting her mother's study aids as pressure. Her bluntness caused tensions, such as revealing Satou's feelings for Yachiyo, which triggered emotional distress. Physically, she has purple hair, indigo eyes, stands 157 cm tall, and wears a waitress uniform with a trainee badge.

Relationships define much of her arc. Souta Takanashi consistently saw through her deceptions, creating mutual friction, though he provided temporary shelter during family reunifications. Souma, after gifting her a teddy bear ("Daisy"), became entrenched as her reluctant "brother." Her actual brother, Kirio Yamada, searched for her for months; their strained dynamic stemmed from sibling rivalry, though their mother, Kikuno Yamada, remained caring despite misunderstandings. At Wagnaria, she formed friendships with Popura Taneshima and Mahiru Inami, though she avoided discussing their romantic feelings to prevent conflicts.

Her development involved partial reconciliation. After Kirio located her at Wagnaria, her mother visited, clarifying intentions about academic support. While some misunderstandings persisted, Aoi gradually acknowledged her family's kindness. However, her core behaviors—stealing, clumsiness, and insistence on her constructed family—remained largely unchanged. She continued living in the attic and working at Wagnaria, sustaining her quest for belonging.
