Description
Yachiyo Todoroki, a 20-year-old employee at the Wagnaria restaurant, serves as floor chief and second-in-command. Her family, blacksmiths specializing in blades from kitchen knives to katanas, instilled pride in their craft with the slogan "If it cuts well, it stabs well!" This heritage explains her constant habit of carrying a katana, a practice born of family pride, not aggression. Though the weapon unnerves customers and coworkers, she rarely draws it; only two documented instances occurred, both triggered by perceived threats to her relationship with restaurant manager Kyouko Shirafuji.

Bullied as a child for being "weird" due to the katana and too timid to defend herself, Yachiyo's life changed when Kyouko intervened in a bullying incident, scared off the aggressors, and promised ongoing protection. This fostered Yachiyo's intense, lifelong devotion to Kyouko, whom she considers the most important person. She followed Kyouko to Wagnaria and attends to her every need, such as compulsively preparing parfaits, even using restaurant supplies. Her loyalty drives extreme actions, including working through illness to stay near Kyouko.

Yachiyo displays a dual nature: generally kind, gentle, and motherly towards coworkers, especially female staff. She comforts Mahiru Inami about her androphobia, reassures Popura Taneshima about her height, and confronts anyone insulting Popura. However, she exhibits sudden aggression if Kyouko's attention is diverted, like threatening the restaurant owner with her katana for offering Kyouko sweets. She is notably naive about romantic feelings, remaining oblivious for years to Jun Satou's deep affection for her, misinterpreting his kindness as interest in others like Kyouko or Popura.

Her relationship with Jun evolves significantly. Initially, she confides in him about Kyouko, unaware this causes him distress. Jun supports her silently, such as nursing her through illness while attributing the care to Kyouko to appease her. After a coworker reveals Jun's feelings, Yachiyo reacts with anxiety, avoiding him until a conversation resolves the tension—though she misinterprets his subsequent ghost-story explanation. Eventually, she reciprocates his feelings, leading to marriage. This development softens her obsessive traits; she stops carrying the katana and shifts from idolizing Kyouko to openly expressing pride in Jun. She also steps down as chief of staff, succeeded by Popura.
