Description
Maya Matsumoto is an 18-year-old waitress at the Wagnaria family restaurant, possessing long black hair with a distinctive front curl and red-framed glasses slightly thicker than coworker Souta Takanashi's. Her height measures 167 cm (5'6") and weight 49 kg.

Driven by an intense obsession with being perceived as "normal," she strives for an ordinary life while avoiding unconventionality. This pursuit paradoxically manifests in behaviors others deem unusual, such as distancing herself from quirky coworkers. Her timid demeanor includes respect for authority. Initially appearing in background scenes with minimal interaction to avoid workplace eccentricities, she gradually integrates over time.

Her development shows progression from silence to hesitant participation. In Season 1 Episode 13, her attempts to act "normally" result in clumsy or perceivedly strange behavior. By Season 2 Episode 13, she tries assisting coworkers but retreats when teased about her normality fixation. She self-proclaims the nickname "Maya Normal Matsumoto," though others avoid using it, underscoring the gap between her self-perception and others' views.

Relationships evolve cautiously. She becomes upset misinterpreting Souta Takanashi's "old hag" comment as directed at her. Jun Satou vents frustration by placing a cucumber in her hair, diverging from his usual teasing of Popura Taneshima. Yachiyo Todoroki supports her during distress, like when she breaks a dish and panics over appearing abnormal. She identifies Mahiru Inami's romantic feelings for Souta as "nice and normal." Her most significant connection is with Kirio Yamada, met accidentally; after initially deeming him abnormal for wearing a white jacket, she later dates him.

Her name "Maya" combines "hemp/flax" (麻) and "question mark" (耶), while "Matsumoto" means "pine tree" (松) and "origin" (本). Her background lacks extensive detail, but her journey reflects a subtle shift from isolation to reluctant engagement, preserving her core desire for normality amid personal connections.
