Description
Hōzuki is one of fifteen-year-old twin half-demon sisters, inseparable from Bonbori, living at the Ministry of Spirit Affairs headquarters. They share identical features: light blonde hair, golden green eyes, and pink yukatas. Operating as a single unit, they specialize in tracking using magical petals infused with fragments of their souls. This technique requires Hōzuki to sing while Bonbori observes the petals; destruction of a petal physically harms the singing twin due to the soul link.
Abandoned as children and left in a cave, an unnamed woman sustained them, providing food and clothing. She instructed them to hide during daylight and avoid humans, calling them Bonbori and Hōzuki. Disobeying her warnings, they ventured out by day, leading villagers to discover her aid. Her husband confirmed her death, blamed the twins, and pursued them. They fled into the forest and were rescued by the fox spirit Kushimatsu, who brought them to the Ministry headquarters to join Zakuro and Susukihotaru.
Assigned to human lieutenant Ganryu Hanakiri at the Ministry, the twins developed a powerful attachment to him, particularly because he could distinguish between them despite their identical looks. This deepened their affection and trust, driving them to actively protect him on missions. Hōzuki once physically restrained Ganryu during combat against the black widow Rangui to stop him intervening while Bonbori fought. They also confided their past to him, strengthening their bond.
