OVA
Description
Ichiko Ono is Yumemi Hidaka's classmate and childhood friend, known for her positive, energetic demeanor and fiercely protective instincts toward Yumemi. Her protectiveness stems from co-dependent tendencies rooted in personal insecurities. A pivotal childhood incident shaped their dynamic: Ichiko witnessed peers ridicule Yumemi after she described visions of floating islands. Overwhelmed by frustration at her inability to see these phenomena, Ichiko cried uncontrollably. This event directly influenced Yumemi’s lifelong habit of carrying a pink umbrella to block her view of the sky. Though Ichiko publicly claims belief in Yumemi’s abilities, she privately wrestles with doubt, struggling to trust intangible phenomena.

During the first OVA events, Ichiko actively discourages Yumemi’s interactions with Munto, dismissing him as the "red man" and insisting celestial realms lie beyond their world. She fears Munto will take Yumemi away, evading her protection. As Yumemi becomes more entangled in Munto’s plight, Ichiko’s anxiety escalates. She physically intervenes during Munto’s appearances, forcibly severing the connection between worlds by pulling Yumemi back to reality.

Two years later in the second OVA, Ichiko adopts increasingly controlling measures to anchor Yumemi in ordinary life. She organizes a part-time job for Yumemi, Suzume, and herself at a local shrine and plans group activities like amusement park visits. These efforts reflect her mounting dread over Yumemi’s deepening involvement in the heavenly conflict and her bond with Munto. Ichiko repeatedly voices fears of losing Yumemi to incomprehensible forces, highlighting her persistent internal conflict between wanting to support her friend and her inability to accept Yumemi’s supernatural experiences.

Her development culminates when she witnesses Yumemi touch a sacred shrine rock, triggering a vision of an injured Munto. Initially resistant, Ichiko gradually shifts toward reluctant acceptance of Yumemi’s destiny, particularly after Suzume helps convince her that Yumemi must follow her own path. This transition underscores the tension between Ichiko’s protective desires and Yumemi’s inevitable role in celestial events.
