Description
Shōta Raidō, usually called Raidō, faced social challenges in junior high due to a stern expression misinterpreted as unfriendliness, motivating his high school goal to make 100 friends. He is a tall student with short black hair, brown eyes, and a largely unchanging stoic expression masking strong internal emotions. His typical attire is his school uniform: white shirt, black pants, black belt, and white sneakers.

Outwardly calm and reserved, Raidō possesses a vivid imagination and frequently overthinks, concocting elaborate, improbable explanations for ordinary events—like suspecting quiet classmate Reina Aharen's secret activities or misinterpreting her actions as dangerous. Despite this tendency, he occasionally deduces correctly, such as guessing her interest in becoming an idol. He remains fundamentally kind and considerate, prioritizing others' well-being, as shown when he supported Aharen against ostracization for her boundary issues and later encouraged her artistic pursuits.

His bond with Reina Aharen began as high school seatmates. After overcoming initial misunderstandings about her quiet voice and clinginess, they grew close through shared activities like studying, gaming, and karaoke. During a camping trip, he confessed his feelings, leading to mutual romance solidified when he defended their relationship against Mitsuki Ōshiro's challenge. They eventually married, had children, and stayed together into old age. Others in his expanding social circle included Mitsuki Ōshiro, who initially distrusted Raidō due to his looks but grew to respect his genuine care for Aharen, and classmates like Ishikawa and Hanako, who connected through Aharen.

Raidō has a younger sister in junior high who finds him eccentric yet worries about his friend-making ability. His mother appears briefly, while details about his father are unspecified. Reina's younger sister, Eru Aharen, initially resented him for "stealing" Reina's attention but gradually softened due to his consistent kindness.

Post-graduation, Raidō became a successful novelist, channeling his imaginative tendencies; one published work mirrored his high school experiences with Aharen. Later, he joined a space expedition to Mars while continuing to write. Aging changed his appearance minimally until later adulthood, contrasting with Aharen's more pronounced youthful look.

Key trivia includes his catchphrase "じゃね?" ("ja ne?"), featured in every anime episode title. He shares a birthday with Aharen, and both received surprise parties together. Gifts from Aharen, like Hokemon figures and life-size models of themselves, decorated his room. He also developed acute hearing to discern Aharen’s soft voice.
