Description
Gina, a human girl introduced later in the narrative, first appears as a sacrificial offering aboard a ship bound for Devil's Island, intended for the island's guardian monster. This circumstance brings her into contact with Pinocchio, who is also on the ship attempting to rescue his father, Geppetto. When the monster attacks, Pinocchio confronts the creature and, aided by the Oak Fairy, defeats it. The resulting shipwreck strands Pinocchio, Geppetto, and Gina together on Devil's Island.

Stranded, the three forge a close familial bond while struggling to survive. Gina and Pinocchio work together caring for Geppetto, gathering food and resources. Their shared ordeal leads them to vow to become siblings, cementing their relationship as an adopted family. Through combined effort and a touch of magic, they gradually transform the harsh island into a more habitable, peaceful place.

Eventually rescued by their animal companions Jack, Willie, and Charlie, they return to Europe just before Christmas. Shortly after arrival, Gina falls seriously ill. Her sickness prompts Pinocchio to seek medicine. During his search, he discovers many other children afflicted with the same expensive-to-cure illness. Choosing to help all, Pinocchio seeks a rare medicinal herb instead, successfully finds it, and administers the cure, healing Gina and the other children. Gina's illness and recovery thus directly influence Pinocchio's decisive act of selfless courage, which contributes to the conditions allowing the Oak Fairy to transform him into a real human boy in recognition of his proven kindness and bravery.

Following their rescue and Gina's recovery, she remains with Geppetto and the now-human Pinocchio. The story concludes with Gina, Pinocchio, Geppetto, and their friends gathered peacefully together on Christmas night, implying her continued place within their family.
