Lloyd de Saloum is the seventh prince of the Kingdom of Saloum. In a previous life, he was an ordinary commoner with a deep love for magic but little innate talent or mana. He gained admission to the Academy of Sorcery as the only commoner student and faced severe bullying from noble students. He was burned to death in a duel by a noble named Sias lo Revenant, who berated him for his lack of noble bloodline and magical aptitude. His final wish was to continue learning and researching magic. Upon reincarnation, Lloyd retained all memories of his past life and was born into the royal family. As a newborn, he accidentally fired a powerful spell that blew a hole through the castle roof. He possesses an enormous amount of magical knowledge and mana, which even terrifies demons. He has no interest in royal succession, romance, or anything unrelated to magic, dedicating all his actions and desires to magical research and practice. His appearance differs between source materials. In the light novel, he has long brown hair and brown eyes, while the anime and manga depict him with long deep bluish-black hair and blue eyes. He is short and has a cute, androgynous appearance that sometimes leads to him being mistaken for a girl. Lloyd's personality is overwhelmingly focused on magic, to the point of obsession. He can be described as a "Mad Mage" due to his willingness to do anything to learn and research magical phenomena. He finds boredom intolerable and even learned a memory-erasure spell to forget books so he could experience reading them again for the first time. While he often appears apathetic or aloof, he is highly observant and cares deeply for those close to him, willing to help them directly or indirectly. He is also extremely picky about food, preferring meals made by a select few people, with pudding being a favorite. He shows little sense of shame, not minding nudity, though he refused to be breastfed during infancy due to his adult mind. His magical abilities are vast and god-tier. Key capabilities include his signature barrier spell, which constantly surrounds him, analyzes all incoming attacks, and provides planetary-level durability; capabilities in fire, water, air, earth, plant, biological, holy, light, and metal manipulation, among others; power mimicry, information analysis, memory manipulation, soul extraction, spatial manipulation, teleportation, and existence erasure; accelerated development, allowing him to use hundreds of spells simultaneously when most sorcerers struggle with two; and resistance to magic, possession, mind manipulation, fear manipulation, and more, due to his immense, dense mana. His physical combat skills are also notable, as he learned Qi manipulation and martial arts, surpassing dedicated practitioners like Tao after seeing the techniques only a few times. Significant events in his life post-reincarnation include creating a sentient clone of himself named Ydd and two autonomous golems, Maron and Coron, around age six, and later erasing Ydd's memories at its request; rescuing an injured Sylpha around age seven, which led to her becoming his personal caretaker and tutor; joining the church to study Divine Magic around age eight, which resulted in him being banned after causing mayhem and injuring a priest named Escher; freeing the demon Grimoire from a sealed tome in the castle archives, easily defeating him, after which Grimoire pledged allegiance and became his familiar, often transforming into a smaller form; conducting magical experiments with large-scale consequences, such as blowing a hole in the atmosphere that instantly turned day to night, which he then repaired; and frequently helping others, such as granting members of the Assassin's Guild, who are Norowares or "Blighted," full control over their unique but dangerous innate magical abilities. Lloyd is considered the most powerful human mage, whose magical power is often perceived as a dark, endless abyss that horrifies even powerful demons and majin. He is a genius who excels not only in magic but also in strategy and deduction, though his single-minded focus on magic can lead to him overlooking the broader consequences of his actions.
