Description
Rin Natsuki is a second-year student at L'École des Cinq Lumières middle school and the childhood friend and classmate of Nozomi Yumehara. Her parents run Natsuki Florist, a flower shop, and she has two younger siblings, Ai and Yu, whom she deeply loves even when they annoy her. Rin often helps at the family shop and takes care of her brother and sister.
She displays a blend of tomboyish and feminine traits, with a straightforward and down-to-earth nature that contrasts with Nozomi's cheerfulness. Rin has a passion for sports and excels in many athletic activities, which initially made choosing a school club difficult; she eventually joins the futsal club. She also possesses a strong interest in accessory design and is primarily responsible for creating the designs sold at Natts House.
Beneath her generally calm and nurturing exterior, Rin can be hot-blooded, impatient, and passionate. This sometimes leads to clashes with more reserved individuals like Karen Minazuki, though they eventually learn to work together and respect each other's strengths. Rin's greatest fear is losing someone she loves, which fuels her protective attitude toward Nozomi. She also fears unnatural things, especially ghosts—a fear stemming from childhood, when it would take her a long time to recover after being startled.
Rin transforms into Cure Rouge, the Pretty Cure of Passion, with the catchphrase, "The red flame of passion, Cure Rouge!" She represents the power of fire. In this form, her hair and eyes become bright red, and her hair grows longer to resemble a flame, adorned with a magenta butterfly hair clip. Her outfit is a white dress with red lining, pale pink ruffled trim, red gloves and socks, dark pink shorts, and orange and red boots. A red and purple butterfly with a green gem rests on the chest of her dress.
Her form evolves in later upgrades. As Super Cure Rouge, her outfit gains additional ruffles, wing-like extensions on her boots, and large red swallowtail butterfly-shaped wings. In her Rainbow form, her hair turns neon red, her outfit becomes paler with light scarlet accents, and it features more feather-like frills and scalloped designs. A light pink rose appears on her chest, and small cream wings emerge on her back.
Rin initially rejects the offer to become a Pretty Cure due to her busy schedule. However, after seeing Nozomi, as Cure Dream, get hurt in battle against Girinma, Rin's desire to protect her friend awakens. A red butterfly grants her the power to transform into Cure Rouge, and she joins the team to fight against the organization Nightmare.
Her relationship with Karen Minazuki, Cure Aqua, begins contentiously. They often argue over minor details like decorating Natts House or what tea to serve. During a battle against a Kowaina summoned by Arachnea, they discover their contrasting approaches can complement each other. Recognizing a shared desire to protect others and a refusal to lose, they become friends despite their differences.
Rin develops a brief secret crush on Momoi Kyosuke, the human alias for the fairy Mucardia, after he gives her a red flower following a tennis game. She feels nervous around him until discovering he was using her to get closer to the Pretty Cure team.
In the movie *Great Miraculous Adventure in the Mirror Kingdom!*, an alternate dark version of her exists known as Dark Rouge. She also appears in other media, including the *Pretty Cure All Stars* crossover films and the sequel series *Power of Hope: PreCure Full Bloom*, which features the characters as adults.
As an adult, Rin's hair is longer, reaching her shoulders and appearing slightly more unkempt. She wears lip gloss, and her fashion sense matures. One of her adult outfits includes a short ruffly-sleeved beige blouse with brown buttons, a light brown ankle-length skirt with straps, and dark brown Mary Janes, accessorized with a gold bracelet and red earrings. Alternate adult outfits feature a black turtleneck with a light maroon blouse and brown boots, or an ensemble with a golden necklace, a black vest, a light maroon jacket, a long grey skirt with a slit, brown tights, and light brown high heels.
