Junko Takeuchi
Description
Junko Takeuchi is a Japanese actress and voice actress born on April 5, 1972, in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. She is employed by the agency Ogipro The Next Co. Inc. and is also affiliated with the theater company BQMAP. Her path to becoming a voice actor began after she joined the BQMAP theater company in 1996, where she had several stage appearances. A staff member from a voice actor agency, after seeing one of her performances, encouraged her to enter the industry, leading to her debut.
Takeuchi is widely recognized for her skill in portraying young male protagonists, often those with energetic and quirky personalities. Her most iconic and enduring role is Naruto Uzumaki in the long-running anime series Naruto and its sequels Naruto: Shippuden and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, a role she secured after being selected from an audition of over 200 candidates. This career-defining part showcased her ability to convey a character's growth from a boisterous outcast to a mature hero over many years.
Beyond Naruto, her filmography is extensive and features many other leading roles in major franchises. She voiced Gon Freecss in the 1999 version of Hunter x Hunter, Metabee in Medabots, and Takuya Kanbara in Digimon Frontier. She has a long-standing association with the Digimon franchise, primarily as the voice of Gomamon across numerous series and films including Digimon Adventure:, Digimon Adventure tri., and Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. In the world of sports anime, she is known as Mamoru Endō in the Inazuma Eleven series, a role that earned her industry recognition.
While celebrated for her boyish roles, Takeuchi's range also extends to female characters. She played Rin Natsuki, also known as Cure Rouge, in the magical girl series Yes! Precure 5 and its sequel, reprising the role in several Pretty Cure All Stars crossover films. Another notable example of her versatility is her performance as Kuromi, the mischievous yet popular Sanrio character from Onegai My Melody, which she has voiced across multiple series and projects. The list of roles provided also includes Barbatos Bachiko in Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun, Barunya in Mazica Party, and the dual role of Popuko in Pop Team Epic, demonstrating her continued activity across a wide variety of shows.
Her talent has been recognized within the industry. At the Fifth Seiyu Awards in 2011, she won the Kids/Family Award for her performances as Naruto Uzumaki and Mamoru Endō. The following year, she shared the Synergy Award with fellow voice actress Yuka Terasaki for their work on the Inazuma Eleven series.
