The story revolves around a group of young heroes who protect the digital realm from malicious entities known as Malicomes, which threaten both the virtual and real worlds. The protagonists, known as Web Knights, use advanced technology to dive into the internet and combat these threats.
The central character is Kaito Kirishima, a skilled gamer and programmer who becomes the leader of the Web Knights. Alongside him are his friends and teammates: Rui Saionji, a calm and intelligent strategist; Tatsuya Hoshino, a cheerful and energetic fighter; and Miu Amakase, a kind-hearted and resourceful member. Together, they pilot powerful digital avatars called Legions, which are customizable mecha-like entities used to battle Malicomes in the virtual space.
The series explores the concept of a digital frontier where the boundaries between reality and the internet blur. The Web Knights face various challenges, including uncovering the origins of the Malicomes and their connection to a mysterious figure known as Lord Ghaleon, who seeks to dominate both the virtual and physical worlds. As the story progresses, the team uncovers deeper secrets about the nature of the internet, the Malicomes, and their own roles in maintaining the balance between the two realms.
The narrative is structured around episodic battles against Malicomes, interspersed with overarching plotlines that delve into the characters' personal growth and the evolving threat posed by Lord Ghaleon. Themes of teamwork, courage, and the ethical implications of technology are woven throughout the series, as the Web Knights strive to protect both worlds from destruction. The anime combines action, adventure, and science fiction elements, creating a dynamic and engaging storyline that appeals to fans of virtual reality and mecha genres.
