Description
Azi Dahaka is a major antagonist from the anime Future Card Buddyfight Triple D, serving as the evil buddy monster of the human fighter Kyoya Gaen. Originating from the Darkness Dragon World, Azi Dahaka is a powerful and malevolent entity who plays a central role as a primary villain not only in Triple D but also in the first season of the broader Buddyfight series.
In terms of background, Azi Dahaka is an ancient and immensely powerful dragon who entered into a buddy contract with Kyoya Gaen when Kyoya was a child, promising to help him achieve his ideals for a new world. This partnership is the source of Kyoya's Disaster Force abilities. In the events leading up to Triple D, Azi Dahaka had a significant history with the black dragon Abygale; he had previously defeated Abygale and tore out his right eye, sparing his life only to observe how strong his opponent would become. It is later revealed that Abygale was created using a sample of Azi Dahaka's cells, making the black dragon a kind of clone or "son" to the three-headed dragon, a fact Azi Dahaka uses to mock his rival.
The personality of Azi Dahaka is defined by arrogance, sadism, and an insatiable lust for power. He is fierce and dangerous, believing himself to be the embodiment of order and placing himself at the pinnacle of all power. He often threatens to return all of existence to nothingness, viewing his own potential defeat not as a failure but as a sign that his opponent is doomed to an even greater demise. His worldview is nihilistic, and he carries himself with a sinister, god-like demeanor, looking down on all others.
Within the story of Triple D, Azi Dahaka and Kyoya are central antagonists who seek to acquire the power of the Sun Dragon, Bal, as part of Kyoya's project known as "Triple D." This project aims to break down the barriers between worlds and allow Kyoya to ascend to godhood, with Azi Dahaka being the key power source for this transformation. Throughout the season, Azi Dahaka battles against the protagonist Gao Mikado and his buddy Drum Bunker Dragon, as well as against Gaito Kurouzu and Abygale. His confrontation with Abygale is particularly personal, as he mockingly calls the black dragon "my son" during their fights, revealing the deep and violent history between them.
Azi Dahaka undergoes significant development and evolution in his forms throughout Triple D. He initially appears as a large, fearsome three-headed gray dragon with fuchsia accents and bladed armor. As the series progresses and he faces powerful opponents, he transforms into the "Great Demonic Dragon of Demise," growing larger with light-blue wings and dark-blue armor. His ultimate and most terrifying evolution is triggered after a defeat by Abygale, where he becomes the "Black Sky Sun Dragon, Azi Dahaka Daeva." In this final form, he becomes the largest black dragon ever seen in the anime, growing to a massive size with five heads, including two attached to his wings and one on his lower torso, giving him an even more ferocious and deity-like appearance.
The culmination of his role involves fusing with Kyoya. As part of Project Triple D, Kyoya forcibly assimilates Azi Dahaka, transforming into a new deity-like being known as the "Demonic Dragon Deity of the Black Sun, Gaen." This fusion is a size 10 monster of immense power, capable of annihilating fields and recovering life points. However, even in this god-like state, Gaen is ultimately defeated by Gao Mikado, leading to Kyoya's surrender and Azi Dahaka's end as an independent entity.
Regarding notable abilities, Azi Dahaka possesses incredible destructive power. In battle, he is known for his ability to launch multiple attacks, often wiping out an opponent's entire field in a single turn. When he is destroyed in his base form, his ability allows him to equip Kyoya with the powerful item "Demonic Demise Sword, Aqulta Gwaneff," turning his own destruction into a strategic advantage. In his evolved Daeva form, his power and size increase exponentially, allowing him to deliver devastating double and triple attacks that shock his opponents. Ultimately, his power is fully realized when he fuses with Kyoya to become Gaen, a being with the power to control life totals, prevent opponents from drawing cards, and achieve nearly invincible defensive and offensive stats.
