Baku Omori is a friendly yet hot-blooded 6th-year elementary student at Aibo Academy, childhood friends with Gao Mikado and Kuguru Uki. As the primary deck-builder for Team Balle du Soleil, he constructs and refines decks tailored to each fighter's preferences and playstyle, believing decks should enhance individual strengths rather than enforce conformity. His selflessness combines with a passionate dedication to deck-building, often leading to arguments with Gao despite their close bond. Baku experiences constant, intense hunger; without food, his cognitive functions slow dramatically, and he prioritizes eating above almost all else. This hunger manifests comically, like contemplating cooking a Buddy monster egg or fainting until fed. Recurring ship tease occurs with Kuguru, involving mutual denial of romantic feelings and intense embarrassment when their Dungeon World counterparts perform a Link Attack while holding hands.
His deck-building skills were mentored in youth by his cousin Retsu Omori. This relationship fractures when Retsu joins the antagonistic Disaster organization as Gremlin. Their Season 1 reunion forces Baku to confront Retsu's corrupted philosophy—that decks should control fighters—leading Baku to reject his mentorship and actively prove Retsu's methods wrong. Key contributions to Team Balle du Soleil include reconciling with Gao after an argument by constructing a deck demonstrating Tetsuya Kurodake's improved skills. He later addresses Gao's tactical weakness by modifying his deck, leveraging Jin Magatsu's help to convince Gao. After Drum Bunker Dragon's training, Baku designs three new decks for Drum's evolved forms. During the ABC Cup, his Dungeon World counterpart appears as a monster card, intensifying the ship tease with Kuguru during their joint attack.
Conflict with Gremlin escalates when Retsu manipulates Baku into doubting his choices, specifically regarding Jackknife Dragon in Gao's deck. Though initially resistant due to balance concerns, Baku relents, contributing to Gao's victory over Gremlin. Later, during Gao's rematch against Tasuku Ryuenji, Baku overcomes Gremlin's psychological interference by interpreting discouragement as an inadvertent hint, leading to the strategic activation of Roaring Slash!! Gargantua Punisher!! to exploit Distortion Punisher!! and secure Gao's win. In Season 2, he assists Gao in naming a blank Impact card and remains involved in deck construction. While his prominence diminishes in later seasons, he retains relevance as Gao's deck-builder when needed. His documented Buddyfight losses occur against Kuguru (disguised as Sofia Sakharov) and Tetsuya.
