Laura Bodewig is a genetically engineered super soldier, a German military project test-tube baby designed exclusively for combat. Her upbringing focused solely on military training, resulting in significant social underdevelopment and ignorance of civilian life. She possesses very pale skin, long silver hair, a natural red right eye, and a black eye patch covering her artificial yellow left eye. This malfunctioning implant, "Odin's Eye," resulted from a failed nanomachine experiment intended to enhance her IS piloting. It provides heightened sensory processing but cannot be deactivated, initially degrading her performance as a soldier and pilot. At 148 cm tall and 38 kg, she is the smallest and most petite of the main heroines. Her personality is cold, distant, and antisocial due to military conditioning, coupled with a pronounced superiority complex. She openly dismisses others' abilities as inferior, exemplified by insults toward Cecilia Alcott and Lingyin Huang. Despite this arrogance, she exhibits fanatical admiration for Chifuyu Orimura, viewing her as the ultimate role model after Chifuyu's mentorship helped Laura regain her top-rank status following the eye implant failure. Laura initially despises Ichika Orimura, blaming him for Chifuyu's perceived "weakness" after Chifuyu forfeited the Mondo Grosso tournament to rescue him. Her military background causes social misunderstandings, such as referring to Ichika as her "wife" (a misunderstanding of the Japanese term "yome") and commenting that discomforts like sitting seiza are trivial compared to "torture." After losing to Ichika in combat while using the banned Valkyrie Trace System, Laura undergoes development. During a subspace conversation within her IS, Ichika explains that true strength means "being able to do what one wants" and "protecting those who matter," combined with Chifuyu's earlier advice about Ichika inspiring affection. This shifts Laura's perspective from antagonism to declaring herself Ichika's protector against other suitors, motivated by loyalty and burgeoning romantic feelings. Her emotional growth is marked by increased honesty in expressing intentions, such as kissing Ichika publicly and insisting on their bond despite social norms. She also becomes more conscious of her appearance to attract his attention, though she retains comfort with nudity around him due to her lack of social conditioning. Laura pilots the third-generation IS Schwarzer Regen (Schwarzer Hase in some sources), an all-rounder type unit. Her combat prowess is exceptional, ranking her as the strongest first-year student. She easily defeated Cecilia and Lingyin simultaneously, leveraging enhanced reflexes, military tactics training, and proficiency in armed combat—particularly with knives. Her physical abilities extend beyond IS piloting; she excels in unarmed combat and can match Houki Shinonono's swordsmanship. In the OVA *Encore: Sextet of Burning Love*, Laura participates in a summer gathering at Ichika's home alongside Charlotte, Houki, Cecilia, and Lingyin, interacting within the group during games and dinner preparations, reflecting her ongoing integration into social settings and her persistent, straightforward romantic pursuit of Ichika. Her relationships evolve significantly. She develops a close bond with roommate Charlotte Dunois, who teaches her social skills and helps navigate civilian life. They share secrets and support each other, with Charlotte assisting Laura's efforts to win Ichika's affection. Conversely, Laura openly dislikes Tatenashi Sarashiki, threatening her with a knife over tickling and interference with her attempts to visit Ichika's room. Laura also discovers Chloe Chronicle is her older sister.
