Bernard Firestar poses as a "News of the Galaxy" reporter infiltrating Watcher's Nest, using this cover to investigate Alchemy's covert operations and their interactions with extradimensional Ghouls. He risks breaching secure zones and manipulating personnel to gather intelligence.
To gain Misaki Kureha's trust, Bernard falsely claims his father perished with hers in the Tragedy of Cherubim. He avoids identifying this fabricated father when presented with casualty records. Upon recognizing Misaki's unique connection to the Ghouls, his objective shifts to surveilling her, maintaining their bond primarily for intelligence gathering.
Bernard recruits Misaki to steal a spacecraft and download confidential data from the Cherubim incident site. During the escape, he reprograms the android Kotoko-01 to attack pursuers, sacrificing allies for his mission. This grants him access to classified information on Alchemy's genetic experiments creating Ghoul-human hybrids.
Jean Luc LeBlanc of Alchemy passively monitors Bernard until he acquires this critical data. Declaring Bernard "knows too much" and has "entered the forbidden zone," LeBlanc executes him to protect Alchemy's secrets. Bernard's story concludes with his death. He does not appear in "Misaki Chronicles," any films, OVAs, or spin-offs beyond the original "Divergence Eve" series.
