TV-Series
Description
Free Cell is a central antagonist who later becomes an ally in the second and third seasons of the series. He serves as the leader of a group of five Phi Brain children within the antagonistic Orpheus Order. His name is derived from a type of solitaire card game, fitting a naming theme shared by his associates.

Before the events of the series, Free Cell was a student at the prestigious Crossfield Academy, where he shared a deep, formative bond with the protagonist, Kaito Daimon. This childhood connection is the primary source of the story's conflict, as Free Cell believes Kaito broke a significant promise to him. According to Free Cell, this broken promise led to his mother's death, as she was driven to a fatal illness by a broken heart, an event he mistakenly ties directly to Kaito's actions. His childhood friend, Pinochle, is also a member of the Orpheus Order.

Driven by intense resentment and a thirst for revenge against Kaito, Free Cell joins the Orpheus Order and receives a replica Orpheus Ring. Wearing this artificial artifact amplifies his existing negativity, leading to increasingly obsessive, erratic, and destructive behavior. He challenges Kaito with deadly puzzle traps, referencing the forgotten promise that Kaito himself struggles to recall.

Over the course of his story, Free Cell undergoes a significant transformation. The replica ring's influence pushes him into a mental breakdown characterized by obsessive rage, but when the ring is shattered, he is freed from its corrupting effect. Liberated from its influence, he confronts the consequences of his past actions and expresses genuine remorse, particularly towards a character named Melancholy, whose uncle was killed by a "Fool's Puzzle" that Free Cell had created. He actively seeks redemption, striving to reconcile with those he wronged and collaborating with Kaito to create puzzles for them, signaling a sincere desire for connection and forgiveness.

By the third season, Free Cell has fully transformed into a dependable ally for Kaito's group, aiding them against larger threats. His journey concludes with his complete integration into the main team, marking a full evolution from a vengeance-fueled adversary into a trusted comrade, with his arc underscoring themes of atonement and moving beyond past grievances.

As a Phi Brain child and a top-tier puzzle solver, Free Cell possesses exceptional intelligence and problem-solving abilities. His replica Orpheus Ring eventually evolves into a true Orpheus Bangle, granting him even greater power and allowing him to awaken fully as a Phi Brain child. He is known for his signature catchphrase, "Let's play up," which he says with a snap of his fingers before beginning a puzzle. He is shown to be quick and skilled in physical combat, able to instinctively block a punch from Kaito. He carries a locket from his mother, which contains her photograph and serves as a memento of his past.
