Description
Yūta Togashi is a high school student deeply embarrassed by his severe middle school "chūnibyō" phase, where he adopted the persona "Dark Flame Master." This involved wearing gothic black clothing with excessive belts, ritually bandaging his right arm to "seal" a dark flame dragon, and performing dramatic supernatural abilities like summoning dark flames or executing techniques such as "Crimson Neowave" and "Blackened Star Road." His behavior caused social isolation. He enrolled in a distant high school to escape this past, but it resurfaces when classmate Rikka Takanashi recognizes him as the Dark Flame Master and involves him in her own delusions.

Initially, Yūta resists Rikka's fantasies, using head chops or deadpan sarcasm to curb her antics. He becomes the de facto manager of her club, the Far Eastern Magical Napping Society of Summer, alongside members Shinka Nibutani (a former chūnibyō hiding her past), Sanae Dekomori (Rikka's devoted servant), and Kumin Tsuyuri (a nap-loving senior). As the group's voice of reason, Yūta strives to maintain normalcy while reluctantly participating. Lingering chūnibyō traits occasionally surface unintentionally, like slipping into Dark Flame Master mannerisms during excitement or stress.

Yūta's relationship with Rikka evolves from annoyance to deep emotional investment. Discovering her delusions stem from trauma over her father's death, which she copes with by seeking the "Ethereal Horizon" to reconnect with him, motivates Yūta to support her fantasies. He even revives his Dark Flame Master persona to aid her quest. Their bond deepens into romance, culminating in a mutual confession and official dating. Yūta commits to helping Rikka process her grief through a contract promising assistance in her search.

Later, Yūta navigates relationship challenges, including Rikka's planned move to Italy. He intervenes by pleading with her grandparents, resulting in her moving into his apartment after her home is sold. During cohabitation, he handles household responsibilities like cleaning and cooking. His devotion is further tested when Rikka's mother explains the symbolism of her name ("snowflake" – unique and irreplaceable), reshaping his perspective.

The film *Take On Me* depicts Yūta and Rikka fleeing across Japan to evade her family's plans to separate them. Throughout their journey, Yūta reaffirms his acceptance of Rikka's entire identity, including her chūnibyō traits, recognizing them as integral to her being. This culminates in him presenting her with a ring as a token of permanence, solidifying their commitment.

Physically, Yūta has short brown hair with a fringe, green eyes, and a lightly tanned complexion. He typically wears his school uniform – a white shirt, red-striped tie, tan sweater, and navy blazer – or casual outfits like jeans and hoodies. As the Dark Flame Master, he dons all-black attire, an eyepatch, and bandaged arms.

Personality-wise, Yūta is generally kind, diligent, and protective, particularly toward Rikka. However, reminders of his chūnibyō past trigger intense embarrassment, leading to aggressive denials or physical comedy like banging his head against walls. He exhibits conflicted behavior, scolding Rikka for social isolation while neglecting his own limited friendships, or condemning her fantasies while secretly clinging to Dark Flame Master mementos. His arc concludes with him balancing acceptance of his past with maturity, using it constructively to support those he cares about.
