Yāta, renowned as Beauty, is a crow hailing from the Chinese Peninsula, gifted with human speech. Cloaked in pitch-black feathers, its talons and feet contrast sharply in hue, while a shadowy hood and scarf shroud portions of its face. Its left eye periodically ignites into a flickering blaze, mirroring the gaze of an Infernal.
Blessed with an extended lifespan by the Black Lady’s influence, Yāta possesses encyclopedic knowledge of Tokyo Empire customs and razor-sharp logic. It frequently chastises its companion, Schop, for impulsive acts like pilfering human food. While leading firefighters toward the Oasis, it withholds explanations for clear threats—such as nearby Infernals—deeming them superfluous.
Throughout the journey, Yāta charts paths across hazardous terrain and discloses the Tabernacle’s existence, an archaic edifice venerated by regional fauna as divine. After the second Great Cataclysm, the crow is revived when Shinra Kusakabe manipulates time to undo the catastrophe, fracturing and reshaping reality.
Yāta’s capabilities include flight and the summoning of searing flames able to cleave solid rock, a skill rooted in the Black Lady’s power. It functions as a pragmatic guide, counterbalancing Schop’s recklessness with measured caution. Its exchanges with the firefighters blend fascination toward their pyrokinesis with a detached, clinical appraisal of their objectives.
