Toru Kishiri is a male Fire Soldier assigned to Special Fire Force Company 5. He sports short, shaggy blonde hair partially concealed by his bangs and is often seen chewing or blowing bubblegum; these bubbles sometimes burst comically on his face. His standard gear includes protective bunker gear marked with blue lines and the Company 5 insignia, complemented by a black uniform and hat featuring a cross-like button during official duties. His personality is characterized by rudeness, carelessness, and being opinionated. He frequently speaks in a sarcastic manner without forethought, leading to conflicts such as insulting non-powered individuals like Akitaru Obi. Kishiri joined the Fire Force primarily seeking popularity, especially with girls, and exhibits arrogance about his pyrokinetic abilities. Despite this, he demonstrates loyalty to Company 5's leader, Princess Hibana, occasionally showing jealousy when she interacts with others like Shinra Kusakabe. As a Third Generation pyrokinetic, his primary ability involves generating explosions via "Backdraft Bubblish Gum." This technique involves filling bubblegum balloons with flammable gas to create explosive backdrafts. He utilizes strategic positioning during combat to leverage this ability, though he was outmaneuvered by Takehisa Hinawa's bullet-ricocheting skills during an engagement. His story involvement begins during Company 5's intervention to capture Setsuo Miyamoto, where he shoves a bystander and provokes Shinra Kusakabe and Arthur Boyle by insulting Obi, resulting in a brief physical altercation halted by Maki Oze. Later, during Company 8's infiltration of Company 5, he attempts to defend against Maki and Hinawa but is defeated. Subsequent arcs show collaboration between Companies 5 and 8, including a joint training assignment at Company 1 where he rooms with Shinra, Arthur, and Takeru Noto. During this mission, he distracts Karim Flam to facilitate an investigation in exchange for Tamaki Kotatsu's contact information. He later aids Shinra alongside Takeru Noto during the Fifth Pillar arc, using his explosive bubbles combined with Takeru's missiles to fend off White-Clad cultists pursuing Inca, allowing Shinra to continue his chase. Kishiri reappears during the post-Obi's Rescue arc. The etymology of his name "Toru" (トル in katakana) may derive from kanji meaning "pierce" or "go smoothly," while "Kishiri" (岸里) combines "shore/coast" (岸) and "village" (里).
