Dent is one of the three Gym Leaders of Striaton City, alongside his brothers Pod and Corn. He holds the title of A-rank Pokémon Sommelier, a role dedicated to assessing the compatibility and bond between a trainer and their Pokémon. Following his defeat by Ash in a gym battle, Dent elected to join Ash on his journey through the Unova region, serving as the group's navigator and cook.

He possesses a strong enthusiasm for playing detective and enjoys solving mysteries through scientific explanations. Dent is also a noted fan of the subway system in Nimbasa City. He maintains a particular dislike for the Pokémon Purrloin, stemming from a negative past experience he declines to discuss in detail.

His primary Pokémon is a Pansage. Throughout his travels, he acquired a Dwebble, which later evolved into a Crustle, and he also caught a Stunfisk.
