Description
My Melody is a white anthropomorphic rabbit who hails from the magical forest of Mariland. Designed by Yasuko Matsumoto for Sanrio, she debuted in 1975, initially conceived as a rabbit version of Little Red Riding Hood. This explains her signature hood, originally red but later most often depicted as pink, a gift from her grandmother that consistently adorns her appearance, usually featuring a flower or bow on her right ear. Born on January 18th, she is a Capricorn.

She possesses white fur, a yellow nose, and long ears typically covered by her hood, with the left ear usually folded down. My Melody enjoys baking cookies and almond pound cake with her mother, reflecting her domestic interests. Her personality embodies kindness, honesty, sociability, optimism, calmness, and hard work, though she can also be blunt, oblivious to social cues, and naive. She frequently repeats advice from her mother, occasionally leading to unintended awkwardness.

Her family includes her parents, her occasionally mischievous younger brother Rhythm, her grandmother who crafted her hood, her adventure-loving grandfather, and her cousin Littleforestfellow. She shares close friendships with Flat, a shy blue mouse, and My Sweet Piano, a gentle pink sheep. Her relationship with Kuromi, introduced in the 2005 anime *Onegai My Melody*, is complex; Kuromi views My Melody as a rival, while My Melody harbors warm feelings towards her, often remaining unaware of Kuromi's competitive intentions. This dynamic persists across various media, sometimes shifting towards cooperation.

In the *Onegai My Melody* series, she is dispatched to the human world to counter dark forces unleashed by Kuromi. Her primary tool is the Melody Takt, a conductor's baton-like item enabling her to animate inanimate objects by saying "Onegai, [subject]?" or "Melody... Mark!". Enhanced versions like the Hyper Melody Takt appear later. Objects animated this way revert to normal after receiving a Melody Candy. During *Onegai My Melody Sukkiri♪*, the third season, her role expands following the dethronement of Mariland's king. After Baku accidentally releases dark energy (Black Notes) across Mariland and the human world, she becomes a candidate for princess. Her trial involves collecting Black Notes and converting them into Twinkle Gems using the Hyper Melody Takt and new Melody Crayons, replacing the previous card system. This mission directly opposes Kuromi, who seeks Anger Gems to become the "Dark Princess," guided by a mysterious figure. The season culminates in their joint effort to stop the Spirit of Dark Power from destroying both worlds.

Beyond the main series, she appears in various other media. The prequel season *Onegai My Melody Kirara★* sees her meeting human Kirara Hoshizuki and using a Star Pendant to collect pieces of a shattered wishing star. The light novel *Onegai My Melody High School~* continues her story three years after *Sukkiri*, where she confronts Kuromi's misuse of a dark magic item called Dokurobou. In other animated series like *Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater* and *The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends*, she appears without a mouth, styled similarly to Hello Kitty. *Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures* depicts her running a gift shop and being best friends with Kuromi, indicating a softer dynamic. The 2025 Netflix stop-motion series *My Melody & Kuromi* features her as a baker in Mariland who partners with Kuromi to save their town after a magical disaster. She also hosted the radio advice show "My Melo Therapy" on TOKYO FM from 2019.

Her catchphrases include "Yan!" and "Ah, the tea tastes good~."
