Description
Lloyd Irving, raised in Iselia by the dwarf Dirk who found him as an infant, learned dwarf techniques and developed dexterous hands through his upbringing. He attended school with childhood friends Colette Brunel and Genis Sage, though frequent sleeping in class led to poor academic performance. His mother, Anna Irving, died when Desians killed her attempting to seize an Exsphere she possessed, an artifact Lloyd later inherited.
When Colette began her Journey of Regeneration as Sylvarant's Chosen, Lloyd planned to accompany her but was misled about her departure time. After Lloyd and Genis intervened at a human ranch, Desians retaliated by destroying Iselia, leading to their exile. They then pursued and officially joined Colette's pilgrimage to restore Sylvarant's mana.
During the journey, Lloyd discovered that restoring Sylvarant would cause the decline of the parallel world Tethe'alla, shifting his goal toward finding a way to save both worlds. Key developments included learning that Raine and Genis Sage were discriminated-against half-elves, confronting the organization Cruxis, and encountering his biological father, Kratos Aurion, whose revelation occurred earlier in the anime adaptation than the source material.
Lloyd wielded twin swords as his primary weapon, specializing in a dual-blade fighting style. After obtaining the Eternal Sword, its power merged with his existing blades. He utilized this merged power to unite Sylvarant and Tethe'alla into one world and germinate the Giant Kharlan Tree from the Great Seed, becoming its guardian.
His character evolved from seeking revenge against Desians to understanding systemic discrimination, particularly against half-elves. Relationships with party members deepened, notably with Colette; actions like kissing her to restore her soul demonstrated heightened emotional openness compared to the original game. The anime adaptation expanded interactions with characters like Yuan and depicted earlier confrontations with Kratos.
Physically, Lloyd has brown hair and eyes, standing approximately 173 cm tall during the initial journey. His distinctive clothing includes a red longcoat, white shirt, brown pants, and a headband with goggles.
