Description
Shōta Raidō is a high school student whose perpetually stoic expression, caused by physical difficulty changing expressions, intimidates others and led to past isolation in junior high. Determined to achieve a fulfilling school life, he aims to make 100 friends in high school. His reserved exterior masks an internally expressive and imaginative personality, manifesting as elaborate delusions—like interpreting peers' minor quirks as evidence of body doubles or secret martial arts training. He acknowledges this tendency as problematic but rationalizes it as preparedness. Raidō possesses extensive knowledge in diverse subjects including botany, law, and history, which proves practical, such as identifying edible plants during a camping trip.

He first encounters Reina Aharen as his seatmate. Confused by her extremely soft voice and lack of personal space, he learns these traits stem from past social rejection. Raidō bridges their communication gap by developing acute hearing for her whispers and proactively moving his desk closer when she withdraws, solidifying their friendship. They bond through shared activities like studying, gaming, sports, and rap battles. A childhood connection later surfaces: they briefly met years ago in a sandbox, where he mistook her for a boy named "Rei" and promised to play again, unaware she moved away the next day. This memory resurfaces only after their high school reunion.

Their relationship deepens during a camping trip when Raidō confesses his feelings, prompting Aharen to kiss him. Later, challenged by Mitsuki Ōshiro—Aharen's childhood friend—to sever ties after losing a Reversi game, he defiantly reaffirms his love, establishing their official relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. Their eccentric interactions evolve to include mutual affection, like Raidō casually complimenting Aharen's appearance. They navigate insecurities together, such as Aharen's relay race anxieties or Raidō's career uncertainties. Their romance culminates in marriage, children, and grandchildren, with Raidō becoming a successful author. In later years, he joins a Mars expedition, humorously causing temporary confusion about his fate during a time-skip.

Beyond Aharen, Raidō befriends classmates Ishikawa and Hanako, who observe his relationship. His dynamic with Mitsuki Ōshiro begins antagonistically due to her suspicion he manipulated Aharen, but she accepts him after witnessing their genuine bond. Raidō's family includes a younger sister in junior high who initially considers him "odd" but cares about his social struggles. She befriends Aharen's sister Eru, who initially resents Raidō for "stealing" her sister but softens after repeated demonstrations of his kindness.

Raidō exhibits a competitive streak, frequently challenging Aharen to games or sports despite consistent losses. He collects memorabilia like "Hokemon" figures and life-size models gifted by Aharen. Other quirks include habitual use of "じゃね?", wearing strawberry-patterned underwear, and briefly adopting a delinquent persona after mistakenly consuming non-alcoholic beer. His development culminates in improved emotional openness, steadfast support for loved ones, and fulfillment of his goal to forge meaningful connections.
