Description
Hideo Murata’s life was irrevocably shaped by his father’s survival of a World War II air raid, rescued by the ghost Sayoko Arashiyama—an event that ignited his childhood reverence for heroism. Aspiring to embody that ideal, he adopted a name echoing the English word “hero,” a testament to his determination to aid others. As a private investigator, his career is plagued by relentless misfortune, entangled in botched or humiliating cases while serving spectral clients Kanako Yamazaki and Yayoi Fushimi.

His rugged appearance—a tanned, muscular frame, a scar slicing across his face from a yakuza confrontation that cost him his right eye—is tempered by practical sunglasses and belted attire. After clashing with Arashi’s group, he abandons detective work to become Kanako’s butler and living power source, sustaining her and Yayoi’s ghostly forms.

Driven by competitiveness, he once raced through city streets and courted arrest to settle wagers. Though initially wary of the supernatural, his pragmatic loyalty anchors him within the group. A childhood encounter in 1985 with time-travelers Arashi and Hajime Yasaka solidified his resolve to mirror Arashi’s courage and selflessness.

Evolving from a lone investigator to a cornerstone of the group, his journey weaves redemption with duty. His bond with Kanako and Yayoi shifts from servitude to symbiotic partnership, underscoring his adaptability and unyielding devotion to safeguarding others—even within the shadows of the extraordinary.
