Description
Kiri Komori is a student in class 2-He, known as an extreme hikikomori who withdraws from social interaction. Her name, meaning "it stays at home," reflects her condition while mirroring the term "hikikomori." After an intervention by her teacher, Nozomu Itoshiki, and classmate Kafuka Fuura inadvertently frightens her out of her home, she is forcibly relocated to an unused classroom at school. Despite this move, she maintains her reclusive habits, frequently appearing within enclosed spaces like lockers, closets, or toilet cubicles, and is rarely seen without her signature blanket wrapped around her.

Physically, she has long dark hair that often obscures her face and stands 165 cm tall. Her attire beneath the blanket varies, sometimes appearing as if she wears only underwear. She is shy and quiet, interacting warmly with Nozomu and showing care for his young nephew, Majiru Itoshiki. However, she displays annoyance, particularly toward Matoi Tsunetsuki due to rivalry over Nozomu's attention, leading to implied conflicts between them. Her selective sociability contrasts with classic hikikomori traits; she interacts willingly within her comfort zone but exhibits severe agoraphobia, avoiding open spaces and relying on physical barriers like her blanket for security.

Her retreat into isolation stemmed partly from an intense fear triggered by historical commodore Matthew Perry's arrival, a recurring motif symbolizing forced openness. After moving to school, she rationalizes her presence by declaring herself a "school hikikomori," extending her seclusion to the campus. This leads to narrative contradictions, such as her appearance during a beach episode later revealed to be a setup within a different school building, maintaining her confinement theme. Her fixation on Nozomu stems from his comment about her being a "good double suicide partner," which she interprets romantically. She also forms a bond with Majiru, who harbors a precocious crush on her.

Across all media, her development remains minimal; she persists as a permanent resident of the school, adapting her seclusion without overcoming her agoraphobia. Her birthday is June 9. Her character serves as a literal and humorous exploration of social withdrawal, with her confinement used for recurring visual gags and situational irony, such as emerging unexpectedly in small spaces.
