Description
Ken Masters is an American martial artist from a wealthy background. At age twelve, he traveled to Japan for discipline training under master Gouken, befriending fellow student Ryu. Their rigorous training forged a lifelong rivalry and bond; Ken developed a more aggressive and unorthodox approach compared to Ryu's traditional Ansatsuken style.

Initially reluctant, Ken grew to respect Gouken. He formed a close friendship with Ryu, often livened their training with pranks. After completing his training, Ken returned to the United States and won multiple martial arts tournaments, including the U.S. championship once held by Charlie Nash. During this time, he met Eliza, who became his girlfriend and later his wife.

Following Gouken's seeming death by Akuma, Ken sought revenge but was defeated. He later found Ryu struggling with inner darkness after confronting Akuma and Sagat. To aid Ryu's focus, Ken gave him his red headband, which Ryu adopted as his signature hachimaki. Ken subsequently advised Karin Kanzuki on healthy rivalries before joining Sakura to rescue Ryu from M. Bison's brainwashing; together they fought Bison.

Invited to the second World Warrior tournament, Ken initially hesitated due to Eliza's pregnancy but participated after her encouragement. During the event, he maintained contact with Eliza, expressing concern for her well-being. After the tournament, Ken married Eliza, and they had a son named Mel.

In later years, Ken balanced family life with mentoring. He trained Brazilian fighter Sean Matsuda while teaching Mel basic techniques. He declined participation in the third tournament upon learning of Ryu's defeat by Oro. By this time, Rose and Menat observed that family life had softened Ken's once-fiery spirit.

In "Street Fighter II: Yomigaeru Fujiwara-kyō - Toki o Kaketa Fighter-tachi," Ken travels to Japan with Ryu at E. Honda's invitation. Caught in a space-time storm, they are transported 1,300 years back to the ancient Japanese capital of Fujiwara-kyō. Separated from Chun-Li and Honda, Ken accompanies Ryu through this historical period, explaining Fujiwara's history and time travel while searching for their companions. He actively experiences the capital's rise and fall before returning to the present with the group.

Ken's personality contrasts with Ryu's stoicism; he is flashy, egotistical, and unpredictable yet maintains a strong moral code centered on honor, discipline, and family. Despite his brashness, he demonstrates deep loyalty to friends and concern for his family's safety.
