Description
"Street Fighter II: Yomigaeru Fujiwara-kyō - Toki o Kaketa Fighter-tachi" is a two-episode OVA that serves as a prequel to the events of the "Street Fighter II" video game series. The narrative centers on the rivalry and interconnected fates of several fighters as they prepare for the upcoming World Warrior Tournament. The story primarily focuses on Ryu and Ken, two martial artists trained in the same style, who are driven by their shared goal of mastering their art. Ryu, in particular, grapples with the dark influence of the Satsui no Hado, a murderous intent that threatens to consume him.
The plot intertwines the lives of other key characters, including Chun-Li, an Interpol officer seeking vengeance for her father’s death at the hands of the criminal organization Shadaloo, and Guile, an American soldier determined to bring down Shadaloo’s leader, M. Bison. The narrative also introduces Sagat, a Muay Thai fighter scarred by his defeat at Ryu’s hands, and Vega, a narcissistic Spanish assassin working for Shadaloo. Each character’s motivations and backstories are explored, highlighting their personal struggles and connections to the larger conflict.
The OVA delves into the moral and philosophical dilemmas faced by the fighters, particularly Ryu, as he battles the temptation of the Satsui no Hado. Ken serves as a counterbalance, representing a more balanced and lighthearted approach to martial arts. The story builds tension as the characters converge, setting the stage for the tournament and the eventual showdown with Shadaloo. The narrative emphasizes themes of rivalry, redemption, and the pursuit of strength, while maintaining a focus on the individual journeys of the fighters as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
