Description
Shizu Murasame, known as Oshizu, perished four centuries ago amid a devastating drought-induced famine, her death shrouded in whispers of ritual sacrifice to summon rain. Bound for centuries to an abandoned school, her spirit gained freedom upon encountering the main cast, thrusting her into the modern world’s complexities. Dr. Ryoko Mikado’s synthetic human body allows her to physically engage with others, attend Sainan High School, and train as a nurse at Mikado’s clinic.

Oshizu wields ghostly abilities—flight, intangibility, psychokinesis—curtailed by her artificial form. Her extrasensory perception detects auras and buried emotions, while possession unlocks others’ memories and feelings. This power revealed Haruna Sairenji’s hidden affection for Rito Yuuki, driving Oshizu’s fervent but ill-fated attempts to orchestrate confessions. These powers destabilize under stress or canine encounters, sparking chaotic outbursts: shattered environments, unintended undressing, or compromising entanglements.

Merging curiosity about modernity with antiquated sensibilities, Oshizu clings to traditions like Japanese brush artistry. Her sincerity and warmth often clash with cultural misunderstandings, spawning comedy. She shares a deep bond with Haruna, deploying psychokinesis to engineer romantic scenarios that collapse into slapstick chaos.

Her synthetic body occasionally disconnects from her spirit during panic or excitement, complicating her adaptation. Collaborating with Mikado to maintain her form, she repays debts through clinic work—though her clumsiness sometimes endangers patients. Spin-offs and OVAs highlight her accidental physical humor: possession-induced groping, bathhouse antics.

Her name, “Silent Rain in the Village,” mirrors her reserved demeanor and historical roots. As the series’ oldest entity, unresolved questions linger about her artificial body’s aging and her spirit’s enduring stability.
